Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Hinton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a creative for as long as I can remember. Throughout my education, I was consistently involved in art classes, clubs, and community projects. With my family’s encouragement, I attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in Visual Communications in 1991. Following graduation, I focused on raising my family while working in retail and as a freelance artist.
In 2011, I discovered my passion for Faux finishing and Decorative painting, which eventually led me to the art of Italian plaster. In 2015, I was fortunate enough to work on a large-scale project with one of Dayton, Ohio’s premier builders, where I developed many lasting friendships and professional connections within the construction industry.
God willing, with perseverance, my career began to flourish.
In 2018, I was given the chance to travel to Italy and visit an Italian plaster factory. I was in awe of the beautiful finishes I learned and the passion the Italians have for their craft.
I have been blessed over the years with opportunities to work alongside incredibly talented artists and to be a part of some amazing projects here in Ohio and abroad.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not always been smooth, and I have overcome many obstacles along the way. Initially I knew very little about the ins and outs of running a business. I had so much to learn, often through making mistakes and figuring out how to correct them. Isn’t that the best way?
Most importantly, I had to work through my own fears to move forward. As an introvert, I felt intimidated meeting with new builders, designers and clients to present my portfolio. However, by persisting, I found that each interaction became progressively easier.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in luxury Italian plaster wall finishes and decorative painting. I use authentic Italian products—including Marmorino, Venetian plaster, Decorative concrete, Lime washes, Liquid Metals, Roman clay and Metallic plasters—to create beautiful, natural finishes on surfaces such as walls, ceilings, range hoods, and fireplaces.
Italian plaster is an exceptional choice because of its visual aesthetics, durability, and natural breathability. It is Eco-friendly, Non-toxic and free of VOCs. Italian plaster is made from a blend of lime putty and marble dust. The lime makes it naturally anti-microbial and regulates humidity in your space. It also helps insulate your home, keeping rooms cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
In application, the plaster is troweled onto the surface, then compressed and burnished to create a seamless stone-like texture, high polished marble look or a soft matte finish. Which makes it a perfect choice for both traditional and modern spaces.
In addition to Italian plaster work, the Decorative painting services offered by my business include:
– Gilding with gold and silver leaf
– Custom painting of switch plates and outlet covers for seamless camouflage
– Faux wood graining
– Custom canvas painting
– A variety of decorative wall finishes created using faux finishing products made in the USA
All of my finishes are a one-of-a-kind piece of art that come directly from my heart.
How do you think about happiness?
I truly love what I do for a living. It brings me so much joy when clients trust me to enter their homes and create something beautiful for them. The support that I receive from my Husband, my family and friends to follow my passion…makes me feel incredibly blessed in this life.
To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life – that is indeed a gift from God.
