Check Out Keyaira Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyaira Johnson.

Hi Keyaira, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off getting my hair done…. Then after so many times paying a stylist to do my installs, I came to the conclusion “I need to start doing hair”. First, my stylist from out of town was like yo, I want to teach you how to do the hair before I leave. That was the motivation I needed, although she never got to teach me how to install hair like her I still proceeded to do research and take classes

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! The main problem for me was having a place to do the hair. I started off in my kitchen, then went to my aunt’s basement, then to my neighbor’s house, now I’m in a suite. Best investment ever was me having a dependable place to do hair

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do Lace installments. I’m really good at them too. I invested into 4 classes and just applied what I was taught and now I’m here. I have my own suite I do hair out of; I have clients and I just work for myself. I’m proud that I stayed consistent and didn’t give up. I think I’m different from other ppl I just do me.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think it’s all about risk…. How would you know what you’re good at if you don’t take a risk? Risk can be a class, an investment, a move, anything to get you out your comfort zone is a risk. I’ll rather take risk than to sit there and do nothin’. I took risk by investing into a craft I love doing and it has helped me tremendously
