Check Out Hunter Harrison’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Harrison.

Hi Hunter, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Coming out of college, I started a career in technology, which was and is a personal passion. However, before long, my deepest and most meaningful hobby crept back into my life – photography. While I had a successful career, it simply wasn’t rewarding enough.

For a couple years, I built my wedding photography business in tandem with my day job. Eventually the work load of both were too much. A decision had to be made. After running the budget with my spouse, I submitted my resignation the next day.

Since then, I have been a professional photographer for 15 years. I’ve captured over 400 weddings for some of the most amazing people you could imagine. Work has taken me to Italy, Grenada, Colorado, and many places in between. My photographs have been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Conde Nast Traveler, Town & Country, and Martha Stewart Weddings.

Most importantly – I get to wake up each morning and pursue my passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Two notable struggles come to mind, which unforunately ran together. In 2017, my spouse an I decided to relocate from Cleveland to Columbus, which meant moving the business. This mean rebuilding valuable networks in a new location. Much of which must be done in person and over time. Then the pandemic hit. Weddings globally were either cancelled or postponed. Networking with other wedding vendors in person became impossible. Since that time, business has bounced back and is thriving.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Primarily I am a wedding photographer, but I have specialized in a particular look that speaks to me. Notable, I take an editorial approach, which is a mixature of fine-art portraiture and environmental candids. I’ve developed a photography and editing style that is both remeniscent of film and timeless. It has taken years to hone this style and I am quite proud of the results. The most rewarding part is delivering the finished images and seeing how much my clients treasure their memories.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Generally, I am fairly risk adverse, but I have taken some leaps before. When deciding to quit my first career to start this business, I had to take some real risk. Afterall, I might not succeed. My spouse and I spend days studying the budget. We took a “worst case scenario” approach. What if no one ever hires me again for photography? How long can we last before I must return to my old career? Turns out, we were in a good position to outlast the risk. Of course, people did book me for their weddings.
