Today we’d like to introduce you to Hali Rieman

Hali, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I never had any experience with lawn care until a few years ago. My husband always handled the mowing, but when we moved to a home with a very large yard, we decided to hire a service. After realizing we could save money by doing it ourselves, my husband bought a zero-turn mower. From the moment I sat on it, I was hooked.

Eager to learn more about lawn care, I joined various Facebook groups to educate myself about different techniques and chemicals. I started posting photos and videos of my lawn to share my progress and insights. Unfortunately, I faced a lot of negativity and criticism. People accused me of seeking attention and made unwarranted comments about my appearance, my makeup, and my intentions. Despite their hurtful comments, I wasn’t fazed because I never cared about what others thought of me.

What did frustrate me was the constant reporting of my posts, leading to their removal. I spent a lot of time creating videos to help others, only to see them taken down within hours.

Amidst the negativity, there were supportive voices who encouraged me to start my own platform. I’m so glad I took their advice! In less than two years, I have gained nearly 36,000 followers on Instagram. Through my posts, I’ve inspired many people to get out in their yards, try new things, and take pride in their lawn care. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous companies, which has further fueled my passion and expanded my reach in the lawn care community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. While my journey into lawn care has been incredibly rewarding, it’s come with its share of challenges. One major hurdle has been the negativity and criticism I faced early on. People made harsh comments about my appearance, my intentions, and even reported my posts, leading to their removal. It was disheartening to see my efforts to educate and inspire others being undermined.

Additionally, posting a video every single day can be daunting. Coming up with fresh, engaging content is sometimes difficult. The pressure to consistently deliver valuable content can be overwhelming. Social media platforms also have algorithms that can be unpredictable. There are times when I gain 100 followers a day, and my videos receive tens of thousands of views. Then, suddenly, things slow down, which can be very frustrating.

Despite these challenges, I’ve persevered and continued to share my passion for lawn care. The support from my followers and the opportunities to collaborate with companies have made the journey worthwhile. Every obstacle has taught me something valuable and has ultimately contributed to my growth and success in this field.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lawn care influencer, also known as the Lawn Queen! My work involves sharing my passion for lawn care with my followers, teaching them new techniques, showing them my failures, introducing them to products that I’ve tried and loved and also working in my yard.

One thing I am particularly proud of is my ability to inspire others. Through my social media platforms, I’ve been able to encourage many people to get outside, work on their yards, and try new things. I’ve even seen some of the young elementary aged neighbor girls mowing on their dad’s zero turns! I take great pride in my yard and the hard work I put into it. It’s especially rewarding when people compliment my husband on our yard, not realizing that I’m the one behind it!

What sets me apart in this industry is not only my dedication and excitement for lawn care but also being a woman in a field that is traditionally male-dominated. My passion is evident in everything I do, whether it’s learning from others, experimenting with new methods or products, or simply enjoying the process of maintaining a beautiful lawn. If you were to ask me whether I’d prefer a new diamond ring and designer handbag or a new zero-turn mower, I would choose the zero-turn every time. My love for lawn care goes beyond just a hobby; it’s a true passion that drives me on the daily!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The number one person who deserves credit for my success is my husband. He has been incredibly supportive, allowing me the time and space to get lost in my lawn care projects. When it’s hot out, I often work in the evenings, and he takes care of dinner and the kids until I’m done, which can sometimes take up to two hours. His understanding and support have been invaluable.

Additionally, I’ve been fortunate to connect with a few friends through social media who are also very knowledgeable about lawn care. They have been fantastic resources whenever I have questions, and it’s been wonderful to meet them in person at the Equip Expo. Their advice and friendship have played a significant role in my journey.

Without the support of my husband and the insights from my friends, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the level of success I have today. They have all contributed to my growth and passion for lawn care in meaningful ways.
