Check Out Emma Couch’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Couch.

Hi Emma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a little girl, I always had a camera in my hand. At the time, I never knew photography could be a career. When I was in high school, I always brought my camera to football games. My friends would always say, “You need to be a photographer.” Once I got to college, I started taking my photography seriously. I began learning more about my camera and editing, and I absolutely loved taking pictures, getting to know my clients, and creating the best work I can.

I currently have a full-time job on top of my business, but my dream is to be a full-time photographer! In 2025, after getting married (YAY!), I decided to add graphic design to my business. I graduated from Ohio State with my bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications, and design was my favorite subject. I made all of the stationery for our wedding and have created several miscellaneous items for family and friends. I love doing it, so I decided to start offering it as a service. I have found my passion, and I’m so grateful to have clients who come back again and again.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it has been smooth, but it has definitely been a learning experience. Trying new platforms for photo distribution and storage. Making sure my prices are reasonable while still supporting myself. Ensuring I am qualified enough to charge for the work I do. Giving myself grace when trying something new or revisiting something I’ve failed at in the past. Making sure I have enough time to do what I love, while also allowing enough time for myself.

My mindset, both in my business and in real life, is to just do it. It’s okay to make mistakes. At the end of the day, we are all human. Yes, people may judge you, and you may receive a nasty message or two, but the next day will come, the sun will shine, and you will learn from your experiences and be better next time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in portrait photography, including couples, seniors, engagements, maternity, weddings, newborns and milestones, businesses, marketing, and more. My editing style is warm and rich, with a focus on making sure photos are polished and presentable. While I stick to that warm, rich look, I also make sure the images match the vibe and style I’m going for in each session. I love a blurry background—lol! The less I can see, the better!

I focus on making real connections with my clients, so sessions feel less like a posed shoot and more like hanging out and having fun with a new friend. I’m very relaxed and flexible, and I’m always open to your ideas and thoughts. I want your experience to be exactly what you’re looking for. In the end, you are the one who will be looking at these photos forever, not me. Of course I want them to look beautiful, but more importantly, I want my clients to feel heard and know that I captured exactly what they envisioned.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I don’t have one specific memory, but I would have to say that every year at our county fair was special. I loved showing sheep and getting to represent FFA and 4-H. My friends and I always had so much fun that week, and I know countless laughs were shared. I would give anything to go back to that simpler time.
