Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Burnett Boyd.
Hi Elise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a seeker- curious, creative, and driven by meaning. I started in makeup and retail cosmetics, where I fell in love with the power of transformation and self-expression. That path eventually led me to hairstyling, and more specifically, to curls. I opened my salon, Textura Curl Studio, and built a space where people feel seen, celebrated, and cared for.
Over time, I realized I wasn’t just shaping hair—I was helping people reconnect with themselves. I like finding the root of things and understanding the why, whether it’s a product formula, a brand story, or a moment of personal transformation.
Now, I’m in a season of realignment. I’m not stepping away from the salon, but I am expanding what my work looks like; showing up both behind the chair and behind the scenes. I’ve been teaching, curating retreats, consulting with beauty founders, and creating content that helps people better understand products, ingredients, and the science of hair.
I’m also pursuing an MBA and building a consulting firm that bridges science, soul, and strategy. My work is all about honoring where we come from while boldly building what’s next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I don’t think it was supposed to be. I’ve navigated burnout, self-doubt, financial pressure, and the growing pains of shifting direction when it would’ve been easier to stay where I was. For a long time, I felt torn between all the parts of me—stylist, educator, visionary, strategist—and it took time (and a lot of inner work) to realize I didn’t have to choose. I could integrate them.
Building a business as a Black woman in beauty also comes with its own set of challenges, especially when your vision doesn’t fit into a traditional mold. I’ve had to carve out space that didn’t already exist and trust that there was room for the kind of work I wanted to do. That trust is still something I practice every day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the core, I want to help people feel seen. Feel free. Whether that’s through a haircut, a conversation, or a product. I’ve spent over 15 years in the beauty industry, and I’ve built my career at the intersection of artistry, education, and innovation.
Right now, my work spans across two worlds: behind the chair, where I still cut and shape curls with intention, and behind the scenes, where I consult with beauty brands on product testing, consumer insights, and storytelling that actually resonates. I also create educational content that helps both stylists and everyday consumers better understand ingredients, routines, and results.
I’m most proud of the way I’ve built my work to reflect all of me. I don’t just follow trends. I ask deeper questions. What does this product do, and why? Who is it really for? Does the brand story align with the experience? What’s missing from the conversation?
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge beauty, science, and soul. I care about performance, but I also care about people. I bring strategy with a heart, and I think that’s what makes the work matter.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Curiosity. It’s the thread that runs through everything I do. I’m always asking questions about people, products, systems, and stories. That curiosity keeps me learning, evolving, and seeing connections and patterns others might miss. It’s what helps me dig deeper, find the root, and create work that’s thoughtful, intentional, and truly aligned.
