Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Ault.
Hi Dylan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in an unincorporated community called Costonia here in Jefferson County, Ohio. This is where I spent the most important, most developmental years of my life and I’m extremely thankful I was able to experience such simplicity so early on. When I was about 11 years old, my family moved into town, which was a very small town in the Ohio Valley called Toronto, Ohio right on the border of West Virginia. This is where I spent all of my adolescence. Like most others in my generation, I felt the need to ship out to college after I’d graduated high school. I attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio for four years, but could never find myself in anything happening around me. I ended up dropping out of college for very good reason, in my opinion: My mental health, to rebel against the social standard that is college, and music. I’d always rooted from music and knew I wanted it to consume me, but it wasn’t until after experimenting with a few well-being enhancers that I truly felt a spiritual and irresistible connection to what my life was supposed to be, the person I was and still am, and where I belonged on the musical spectrum. I quickly began writing songs and expanding my knowledge both intellectually and instrumentally. I discovered a natural ability to write and perform in the Folk/Americana genre. Years passed on by and throughout those years I was able to generate an organic following of friends and fans, leading to the release of multiple projects to musical platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. These projects had drawn some very positive, constructive, and overwhelming feedback. It was then when I’d realized I was exactly where I needed to be and I was headed where I wanted to be.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Although things were looking up for me and my career, the road has not been entirely smooth. Once a following was acquired and I’d released music that meant something to me, it then became a challenge of how to keep these people engaged. How can I be completely organic, but also give the people what they want when they want it? What I’ve realized is that they are on my time. They are patient, they are kind, and they are here on this ride with me. I believe that people are always searching for something different, but also very relatable when it comes to music, and as long as you can stay true to who you are, they will appreciate and support that of you.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve very proud of where I’ve come from and what I’ve accomplished thus far and I cannot wait to see where I will be in the future. I’m very thankful to be a part of the Folk/Americana community and I look forward to putting in effort to remain balanced on every stepping stone throughout this journey. Every single day, I try to reevaluate where I am, how I’ve grown, and what I can do to dig deeper into myself in order to further my career and enhance what I am able to offer to others.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a pretty introverted individual. I was always in my head analyzing everything happening around me, listening to what others had to say, and ultimately found it difficult to pay attention to “what was important”. I did well in school simply because I had to, but always had underlying thoughts that I was constantly learning about things I would not find use for later in life. All I wanted to do was write songs, perform, and be a public figure that people could turn to for their healing and/or personal growth. Songwriting can be a very honest art and I believe it is one of the most powerful forms of expression a person can find. I find joy in it. I find joy in connecting with thousands of people I will likely never meet simply through something I’ve created. It’s a beautiful thing
