Today we’d like to introduce you to David Asare Asiamah SR. Them and their team share their story with us below:
David owns a unique combination of experiences as a leader, entrepreneur and manager. He has a background of information technology, entrepreneurship, leadership and innovations; with over 10 years’ experience in doing business, problem solving, stewarding people, cultivating capabilities and driving change. His most formative experience is starting Agro Mindset Group, a mission driven firm that specializes in agribusiness ventures in Ghana, Africa. He has shared platforms with world leaders at different convocations including The World Justice Forum by The World Justice Project in The Hague; which later formed my decision to pursue Law, and Innovation Prize for Africa, a scheme that awards $100,000 to innovators on the African continent and at the OECD headquarters in Paris.
Upon relocation to the USA, he finds himself doing photography, first as a hobby and second as a business. The impact of this work speaks better than any pitch or promotion; photographing authentic people, their events for lasting memories.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Stricter deadlines to deliver, not having the right tools for the job as a startup were huge challenges I faced along the way. Passion is not enough; you need a seed capital to start any endeavor. This goes without saying that the obstacles were needful for this growth. With limited resources, it is smarter not to waste unavailable resources. I had been careful with my pennies until my first paying client arrived.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With real passion, I place my subjects at the heart of my photography, situating them in the environment in a way that shines the best light on them. I love to shoot in natural light. This brings the natural feel of the environment. Again, not everyone likes plastic editing or retouching, in as much as people want to conceal their imperfections. I do not work with styles when editing photos. I go through every image to apply highlights, contrasts, shadows and whatever is needed in my dynamic range. Again, I do wedding photography. I find it right to educate clients on why they book me and the benefits. Firstly, the cost. How much is too much for memories? Your wedding day is special and photos are the only thing you have left when it’s all over. Make sure you book someone that understands your vision but that is within budget. Spending all of your money on decor and the look of your day but not having enough to pay for a great photographer is not a good idea.
Next is Portraits. Portraits of the important parts of the day is a must. Otherwise what are you hiring them for. Make sure they capture everything you want and help with posing. There are many parts to a wedding day and seeing each portion of the day in the photographer’s portfolio is important before booking. Again it is necessary to educate clients on details and the need for it. You put a ton of thought into every tiny little detail down to the silverware on the tables. Make sure you hire someone that will capture that for you. Getting ready photos, ceremony, Portrait, Reception and Send off are equally important. Look at the portfolio then look at it again and choose wisely.
More so, book a photographer for professionalism. Our job is to capture your wedding day. Not drink as much free alcohol as we can, dance with your guest or find a date. We focus on providing a professional but fun experience the whole time. If I have a drink at a wedding the couple asked me to drink with them and I still leave sober. We know our limits. We want the photos in focus and we want zero mistakes.
Lastly, consider turnaround time. How long will it take you to see your wedding images? Do you receive sneak peeks? Our turnaround time for the entire wedding gallery is 45 days after the wedding excluding holidays. You could receive the gallery sooner but we ask for the full 45 days to get everything selected and edited to perfection. We also provide sneak peeks 2-3 days after the wedding so you can share with friends and family online.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Nicholas Watts MBE, mentored me in farming. I held his Canon for the first time in my life, 12 years ago to photography his farm during my formative years. One day he drove about 20 miles with me to photograph seals at an estuary. This is a remarkable event in piquing my interest in photography. Perry Peprah has been instrumental in helping me develop a photography acumen, with composition and creativity. He encouraged me to get my first Fujifilm camera. I have had models who volunteered to help me develop my craft; Jerrica Brumfield, Wilhelmina, Sandra, Yankah, Emelda, Shakinah etc.
