Check Out Darrien B’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrien B.

Hi Darrien, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father was a musical artist, and club DJ as well. He would take me to the studio with him, and his show rehearsals. I had to be about 2-3 years old. Looking up to my father, and seeing him create music. I knew —even then, that I wanted to become a singer. I got to where I am today by staying dedicated to just being the best I can be at the craft. Recording music endlessly, performing in-state, out-of-state. Performing at festivals, and touring in different states. City to city, even being played on the radio an uncountable amount of times.

I’m still nowhere near where I want to be, but I guess that’s what makes the process fulfilling. Because after all— it is my passion. As I got older, I began partaking in more acting gigs. Starting in high school I was the lead role in the school theater production of grease (I played Danny Zuko). I was able and fortunate to be cast in the movie “Judas and the black Messiah” move starring Daniel Kaluuya. That was truly amazing. I definitely have a love for acting as well. It’s all entertainment to me. So I feel I share the same for acting, as I do for music. I just love to entertain. Side note, my mother is an amazing singer. I’m 99.99% convinced my voice and ability to sing came from her. Don’t tell my pops that, haha.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Never easy. In this business, it’s 20% music, 80% business.. and it hasn’t been simple. Rather complex—if you will.

I’ve had issues dealing with having breakdowns in which, I get frustrated with myself based on where I stand, feeling like I should be in a better or further position than I am, now.

Which I feel like every artist definitely goes through. Dealing with people who do or don’t support you, I’d be lying if I said it all didn’t affect me. Not necessarily saying I live or die by others’ opinions, but this is an opinionated business to be in. So, of course, I never let myself get too high with compliments, or too low with critique. It’s all a part of the game.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter. I specialize in vocal recording and stage performances. I’m known for singing r&b, having a soulful voice, and putting on an amazing show for whoever is in front of me.

What I’m most proud of is my originality. I feel like there are a lot of the same things going on, being said, and being repeated. And I feel that I set myself apart by doing just that— being myself.

Any big plans?
I’m planning on being successful in this very industry, and opening doors to other individuals in my city and neighborhoods I grew up in, that may be in the same spot I once was.
