Check Out Danielle Capotosto’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Capotosto. 

Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I have always had a passion for stationery, in fact, I still have stickers from when I was a little girl. When I wasn’t getting the opportunity to do much illustration in my freelance business, I decided to start making stationery. I started doing pop-up markets in the Akron and Cleveland area. Now 5 years later I am in two local retail shops (the Northside Marketplace and Jean + Lou) and I wholesale across the country. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Relatively smooth. It is always tricky to figure out what products people will like, what new illustrations I should draw, etc. I have found creating things that make me smile or laugh is usually the right way to go. 

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create lots of stationery, stickers, and other illustrated goods. Everything is hand-drawn or painted. My main focus is to make people smile. The world can be a heavy place. If can spread a little happiness and laughter, then I feel like I’m doing a good job. My favorite thing is seeing new customers crack up laughing as they encounter my work for the first time. 

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep going. There will always be setbacks. There will always be things that don’t work our the way you think they will. Everything that doesn’t work out is just a learning experience for how to do better next time. It isn’t easy, but you have to keep on trying.
