Today we’d like to introduce you to Celieta Frost.
Hi Celieta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My aunt had a camera at the time that I was obsessed with. It was a Nikon DSLR and I was obsessed. I begged for one on every birthday, Christmas, and day. Finally, my mom was tired of hearing about it and bought me my very own camera. 2014 I transferred to Shawnee High School. I originally came from Springfield City schools and so I knew no one. My freshman year, Shawnee was playing Springfield High and so, I brought my camera to take pictures of my friends. I didn’t want to text or email the pictures so; I just posted them. When I posted them, students from Shawnee found them too. Soon, I was attending every game from my freshman year to my senior year. I made a senior video as a sophomore in high school and my senior year! Picking up that camera made me know every name in the high school. I knew no stranger as every underclassman and upperclassman knew my name, and I knew theirs.
After my senior year, I took a break as where ever I went, the camera did too. After a full year of going to every sport, every game, every event, I grew tired of taking photos.
Then, I played with a friend’s fancy camera and remembered why I loved it. I am attending Wittenberg college and life throws all the things at you so money became tight. I wanted to pick this back up as a distraction but why not get paid for what you love to do? I love taking pictures of people and being able to be a part of their “story” whether that be weddings, couples, animals, friends, families, etc. You capture the most important moments and capturing the most BEAUTIFUL moments of people and sending those photos and watching their faces … no price is high enough to explain the excitement I get seeing them light up. It is my favorite. I love giving away shoots to people as I came from a single-income home. Some families can’t afford these “luxuries” however, I will ALWAYS do giveaways. They are my favorite shoots.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A passion is never “smooth”
One day you’ll want to do it every weekend, every Monday. Then it turns into a full-time gig. You love it but now, it’s continuous. You are traveling back and forth and editing in your spare time. Sometimes if you let it, it will become a lot! However, you can always find your way back to loving it.
I took a four-year break and found the love again by being around people and seeing my work everywhere.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known as CFrostphotography. That name as stuck to me since my freshman year of high school. I took photos for football, baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, track, etc. I was a big fan of my friends and their passion, as they were mine!
I am most proud of continuing to stay true to me. Photography is not the end goal for a career for me. I never want to lose myself as the only way people trust and love you, is if you are true to yourself.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
To anyone starting out, DO IT IN HIGH SCHOOL! I made so many friends, connections, and it made me feel so involved. Anything I wish I knew starting out is – never change your “look” just because someone is trying to do the same thing as you! Encourage them, root for them, and build a connection with them as they love photography too! I was always afraid to reach out to others who took pictures as I felt I was not “good enough” to work with them. You are good, just ask. Learn and grow from others. If you don’t – you will never grow.
