Today we’d like to introduce you to Angeline Rico.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always felt comfortable in front of the camera. My parents were always taking pictures and making home videos of me when I was little, and everyone around me would say I should model one day. Still, growing up, modeling didn’t feel realistic especially in a world that focused on stability and working hard to provide.
When I first had my daughter, I went through postpartum depression and felt really stuck. It seemed like everyone around me was moving forward, and I felt like I was on a timeline to provide for my family and meet society’s expectations. It took me a while to finally give myself permission to pursue modeling, but eventually I just decided to go for it, despite being a young mom.
Over time, I realized I didn’t just enjoy being in front of the camera I loved expressing myself through it. That curiosity led me to explore modeling, starting with small projects where I could learn and experiment with different styles and poses. Over the past four years, I’ve built experience little by little, learning from every shoot whether it was paid or just a creative collaboration.
I don’t fit the typical mold. I’m 5’1, I don’t wear much makeup, I have acne scars, stretch marks, and I’ve never had Botox. It took time to accept that and realize that what makes me different is that I’m not trying to be like everyone else.
Becoming a mom added another layer of purpose. I want my kids to see that their mom is pursuing her dreams and putting in the work to grow and improve. They remind me every day why I started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My modeling journey hasn’t been smooth. Like most things worth doing, it’s had its ups and downs. Being a freelance model means putting yourself out there all the time, hearing “no” more than you like to admit and still showing up for the next opportunity. There were definitely times I wondered if I even belonged in this industry.
One of the biggest challenges for me has been my height. I’m 5’1, and I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard, “You’re beautiful, but your height…” or missed out on jobs because of it. On top of that, there’s been the financial side. sometimes I didn’t get paid what I thought my time and work deserved, or I had to take small projects just to keep going. At first, that was frustrating, but over time I learned to focus on what I can control my confidence, my attitude, and the energy I bring to every shoot.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work as a freelance model and mostly do commercial and lifestyle work. I love creating authentic, relatable visuals, capturing real moments and emotion, not just posing for the camera. I also really enjoy artistic, implied work, where the story and mood come through. I’ve done everything from small creative projects to paid campaigns, and each experience has helped me find my style and feel more confident in front of the camera.
What I’m most proud of is building my career while staying true to myself. I think what makes me different is the heart and energy I bring to every shoot. I focus on connection and storytelling, not just looking “perfect.”
I’m also proud that I’ve been able to create work I love while showing my kids and anyone watching that you can chase your dreams on your own terms.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d want you to take from my story, it’s to do what makes you happy and give it your best. Take time to connect with people and grow along the way that. And don’t be afraid to fail, be gentle with yourself and start anyway.
