Check Out Akeem Brandon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akeem Brandon

Hi Akeem, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I think the gift of discernment within me has always been present in my life. The camera just gives my gift form and function. When I figured out that I can measure how much light can be captured in a camera, I took upon myself to buy my first DSLR in 2011 & read the manual front to back a couple of times before I started to document my day to day activities and hobbies. My journey started in Moreno Valley, CA. It was the starting point of my adventures and acted as a pathway towards how I see the world & how it functions. I don’t know exactly where or what “here” is but I am here by continuing to believe in my journey and conquering the obstacles that may be on this journey. I’ve taught myself to view the obstacles as lessons to be better if I ever get myself in the same situation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think when you’re trying to establish a new route or follow through your vision, the road isn’t always going to be smooth. Struggle is a part of human nature, if you really dive into it. I struggled with being certain of your vision but not certain of yourself, you know? I started to notice that certain outlooks & ethics weren’t matching my own as well as they used to. I started thinking of places that I can settle down and develop sound of mind and I ended up moving to Ohio in 2020.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I practice a wide range of photography with different avenues of interactions. As a profession, I’ve been published as an Fashion Photographer, Photojournalist & I’ve released my own book titled Second Nature that I published in March 2022. I’ve worked as On-Set Still Photographer on a movie set (with IMDB Credits). I’ve taught a couple of photography classes here & there as well. But as a passion, I specialize in being present. There’s a great advantage in utilizing your senses and training to be vulnerable to the surrounding energy yet maintaining rootedness and outside manipulation. I’ve been sought out to be present for weddings, engagements, the celebration of the soon-to be mothers & fathers, graduations, just because it’s Thursday, seminars. It’s always a great feeling of respect and responsibility to be selected. I enjoy & take pride in seeing my images in a real materialized way, something that can held or see my imagery being utilized in a proper way with proper respects. I think what sets me apart from others is the intention. Quality imagery is organic from the point of contact to the last image review and that requires sincere intention.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about this city isn’t about its aesthetics or functions but it gave me the ability to slow down my pace & thinking about the long term effects of past decisions and the decisions I’ll be making moving forward. I’ve made a new home and fostered a functional life to the point where I can make my peace here too and that is something I can thank the city for.
