Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Bruno.
Hi Adriana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My Journey as a Cake Decorator
My name is Adriana Bruno, and I was born and raised in Uruguay. My father was Italian, and my mother Uruguayan. Since childhood, I have been curious about many different fields — biology, computer programming, and office administration, to name a few. Yet, beyond all those interests, I always loved making cakes.
My mother used to bake cakes for friends and family — not as a business, just as a kind gesture — and I loved watching her. Eventually, I began getting involved, creating my own cakes. I took some basic cake decorating classes and started selling cakes from home. What began as a hobby soon became a passion.
Life’s adventures brought me to the United States, where my first job was at a German bakery in Connecticut. I have wonderful memories from that time and learned so much there — lessons I am still grateful for today. I worked there for seven years, while also attending college to study Office Administration and holding part-time jobs.
When I left Connecticut, I thought my days in the bakery world were over. I moved to Ohio and began working in the administrative department of a Counseling Center. However, my love for baking never faded. In 2006, I started buying kitchen equipment and opened a home bakery. My husband was a strong pillar of support, helping me build the foundation of our small business.
I worked from home for five years before we decided it was time to expand and open a storefront — right in the middle of the recession in 2011. It was not easy: long days, hard work, commitment, and dreams kept us going. Since then, we have continued working hard every single day.
I am self-taught; my true school has been my desire to learn and grow, my years of experience, my successes and mistakes, my passion, and my perseverance. I have never given up in the face of challenges. Today, I continue with the same sense of responsibility and the same desire to keep learning and offering our customers the very best of me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I faced was the entire process of opening a storefront without having any prior experience. It was completely different from working out of my home. We encountered many obstacles — each one demanding extra effort, long hours, headaches, and even some failures. Yet, every challenge taught us something valuable. We learned through perseverance and by believing in what we were doing.
On top of that, we opened our business during a time when the economy was not at its best, which made things even riskier. Still, we overcame each hurdle little by little. Every situation brought new lessons, and with each one, we grew stronger and more prepared.
Even after all these years, we never stop learning. We continue to do so with passion and gratitude, always striving to improve and to offer our customers the very best we can.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a very detail-oriented person and take great care in making sure each cake perfectly reflects what my clients want and expect. I am highly responsible and always strive for everything to turn out as perfectly as possible within our reach. The satisfaction of our customers is truly important to us.
We create custom-decorated cakes for all occasions. I am deeply dedicated to my work—meticulous, passionate, and demanding with myself—just like my father was. I inherited this from him, and I am very proud of it.
We use only high-quality ingredients because I believe that excellence should come from the inside out. I care not only about how a cake looks, but also about how it tastes and how it makes people feel. My goal is for every creation to bring joy, beauty, and a memorable experience to those who receive it.
I feel truly blessed to have an amazing team by my side — my husband Andrés, Anabel and Jenniffer — whose kindness, dedication, and positive spirit make our bakery so special. They are a big part of who we are and everything we create. Together, we look forward to a bright and successful future filled with creativity, growth, and sweet moments to share.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing my customers truly satisfied! There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child’s face light up when they come with their parents to pick up their cake — children don’t hide their emotions, and seeing that pure joy and excitement is simply wonderful.
It also makes me very happy to see customers return year after year for their special events. It brings me joy to be part of the important moments families celebrate — to see the children for whom I once made a baby shower or first birthday cake grow up and come back for their own celebrations. Some of the girls I made quinceañera cakes for have later asked me to create their wedding cakes and even their baby shower cakes.
Being part of those life milestones is truly special. I deeply enjoy and feel grateful for every one of those moments.
