Check Out Making State is Making Moves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Making State.

Beginnings
The idea for Making State was always in the minds of Nick Myers (vocals) and Jay Rowles (drums). One day, Jay was outside playing his cajon and students from the local University passed by him and enjoyed his playing. They asked him “Are you in a band? Because we’re putting together a show to raise money for Operation Smile.” Jay, confidently stated “Yes! I am in a band! And we’d love to play on your show!” Jay then called Nick and said “The good news is, we’ve got a show booked! The bad news is, we need to find members to fill out a band!” Nick and Jay scoured through online avenues and their saved contacts to find Sam Magliaro. (guitars) These 3 would play this gig, and they’ve been gracing stages all across the eastern half of the united states ever since.

Challenges
All creatives face challenges. Making State’s big challenge was the Covid-19 pandemic. Making State wondered if they would even be a band anymore coming out the other side. They wondered if people would even go to shows anymore, and also knew that they couldn’t just reappear and be the same exact band they were before. They needed a fresh coat of paint. The world had changed, and they needed to too. And that’s a scary thing to approach.

What Else You Should Know
Making State is a unique musical act. After every show, they get asked “Wow! What genre ARE you?” and they take a lot of pride in that. They try to genre bend and bring in all of their favorite elements in music to each song. They’re influenced by 80’s pop, Boy Bands, Rock, Metal, Jam Bands, Pop/Punk, Film scores, you name it. They try to fuse their favorite pieces of these together into melting pots for each release.
Making State is most proud of just how far they’ve come musically. They started as a group of guys who felt they needed to write music in a certain way, like inside a specific box. Now they really explore whatever avenue scratches their brains and represents who they really are, and what they want to do creatively.
What sets them apart from others is the genre bending. When you come to a Making State show, you don’t know where they’ll go next. Could be a ballad, could be a breakdown. They’ve shared the stage with lovely piano players, and heavy metal bands and still seem to fit the bill pretty well.

Character
Making State tries to make sure they do things the right way. Always being approachable, always greeting people with a smile, being there to cheer on the other performers, showing their appreciation for the venue, the staff, the attendees etc. is just so important. They think being easy to work with and being good humans is paramount.
