Story & Lesson Highlights with Sade’ Tippton of Columbus

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sade’ Tippton. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sade’, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consist of a mixture of things depending on what mood I woke up in that day to be super honest. On a calm day I start my day with opening up my morning newspaper aka Social Media (which is a shame) but I like to use it to get inspiration from my peers either in art or content creating. Then I like to start my morning routine and plan my day right after. Ive also recently bought a Bible and have challenge myself to read it through so I will read a few pages to a chapter and/or watch a video of what I read to get a better understanding. Then ending it with spending a little bit of time with my dog Polo.
On a hectic day I go straight into my morning routine and planning for my day then straight out the door right after. These type of days usually happen because of my lack of discipline to go to bed a decent time at night.
Im working on having a more consistent schedule when it comes to my first 90 minutes of the day. I think it is really important to have a routine in your life especially when it comes to the start of your day. It just sets your day up for greatness as soon as you wake up but It is just so hard ! I am a work in progress !

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
To start off Hello and What’s going down ! Thank you Canvas Rebel for having me here again to share my story as an artist! and Thank you everyone for the constant support, advice, and teachings along the way and Thank You for reading my journey !
I am Sade’ Tippton I am Multidisciplinary Artist and Model based in Columbus, OH. I work with different medias of art like Digital, Oil pastel, Fashion, Tattoos and currently working with Acrylic.
I have a mobile tattoo brand named “Tippt. In Ink Mobile” that I have been working on these past few months. It is a mobile tattoo business that brings tattooing to you at home ! My target audience is more focus to us Women in the world. As women it is hard to find a good tattoo artist while also being in a space where we feel comfortable. Depending on the position of the wanted tattoo it consist of taking off some type of clothing and not all tattoo shops have the proper area that makes a women feel secure and safe from the others around especially in a vulnerable state like that. Which is why I came up with this business. I am a strong advocate for women and women safety and I will always show that in my work and art.
I am also working on getting back into modeling. I took a year stop to focus on my Tattoo journey but I have been having that itch to get back into it again. I realize how much I do love being in front of the camera and creating a vision. The next projects I look forward to doing I want them to be a little peculiar and out the box but also telling a story. It is a lot of Columbus photographers that I look forward to working with that I know will execute my vision.
Of course on top of it all I am working on selling digital prints and posters of my art. I have been bouncing around the idea of creating a coloring book. I have an example of what the type of art will be shown in the coloring book. I am still on that hope of having my work on a billboard. While also having the hopes of one day having my art shown in a local museum.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Woah, This is a great question and I can do nothing but have a honest transparent answer. The person I was before compared to the person I am today is totally different that sometimes when I do sit back and think about it it truly makes me chuckle. I was probably like any most average young person emotionally unstable know it all and very naive about the world and what It can do to you, but also very quiet and in my shell. I also had the “couldn’t happen to me” mindset and Oh Baby it could most definitely happen to you and me !
What I learned over the years now being 26 years old and still learning (like I said I am a work in progress). Your Plan in your life is not always the REAL plan or God’s plan depending on my readers and their beliefs. But this thing called life that we are all living is not easy. Even the people that make it look easy is falling apart in some type of way and you know what. Its okay. It’s okay to have mess up, break downs, financial burdens, relationship issues, business issues. It only hurst because you care and you’re human. It is okay as long as you have the strength to pick yourself up right afterwards and have the maturity to learn from your mistakes. Im not sure if I said this before but one advice that stick with me. I got from my Aunt when I was in college and I always share with others when we have these type of conversations. “Life is a slippery Slope” meaning one trip or stumble in a situation can quickly lead to a domino effect of other or worse issues if you let it. Don’t put yourself on a slippery slope.
But even with all that I Love Love Love the women I am becoming and keep growing into. I love the confidence that I grew over the years especially when it come to my art or even putting myself out there as an artist. I love that I don’t let my fears hold me from great opportunities around columbus. I Love that I can pick myself up from any situation and move on with grace. Which is something I couldn’t do in the past. I love that I can network with others through out my day and make future friends and business partners.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, Most definitely I have these moment often in this year of 2025 alone after leaving retail for good. Especially when it comes to my art. Even with tattooing. but I honestly believe in myself so much that I wouldn’t even allow myself to give up. I have a tattoo on my body that quotes “Take Every Chance, Drop Every Fear” and I live by it. I honestly also brag about my work too much to stop and luckily I have great supporters to keep me going. Because of this strength it put me in many great positions in this year. I had a tattoo apprenticeship at Ink Addictions Tattoo Shop, Great artist inside check them out if you’re ever around the Easton area. There I learned different tattoo techniques and how a tattoo shop operate. To having the confidence to bridge off and start my own business. To having an opportunity to spend a few weeks in Idyllwild, California and meeting great artist and people. As I hear myself reflecting back on it this past few month to a year have been one of my best. Stressful but most definitely one of the best.
After I have that feeling of giving up I go in that mindset of how can I approach this again or what can I do better in the future. Even with this interview. Literally a few days ago I was going through projects on my iPad and I accidentally deleted a project that I wanted to upload for this moment and I immediately just wanted to break down and cry. It was a digital painting of Basquiat. but after that feeling and trying to get myself together it drove me to create newer projects.
Having that giving up gut feeling is normal especially in this creative artistic world. but I think actually giving up on something tells a lot about that person and how they handle challenges. It is easy to give up it shows strength and courage to finish.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
It is a lot of people I admire from celebrities to people I see every day that I admire simply for the type of person they are more than the power they hold.
Celebrity wise I always have to go to my Top 2 favorite women which is Toni Braxton and Janet Jackson. Which may be a surprise to some but not to others. Besides having relatable and inspirational music that speaks about love and social injustice these women are one of the pure example of how a women should hold themselves. Well in my eyes. From the classiness, demure spirit but fun and young hearted all at the same time. You can tell how passionate they are about their craft especially when you hear their story on how they got here. And maybe it could be just how most woman held themselves around that era but I love it overall.
When it come to the people around me I always admire the women in my life like my mother, bonus mother, older cousins, grandmother and Aunts. I look up to them a lot and value their opinion to the most high. Even though I may not listen to all of them simply because i’m one of those people that literally have to fall on my behind to get the message I still value the advice they give me and it carries a long way. All of these women showed me what it is like to keep working when you really didn’t want to. They taught me about patience and what’s actually worth your time. They taught me what it is like to keep going after a loss. These women will forever be on the type of my admiration list.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I honestly think right now at 26 years old I am in the mix between both of doing what I am born to do and doing what I am told to do and like always I will explain my meaning.
I feel like I am doing what I am born to do in the aspect of Truly living my life as an Artist and confident in introducing myself as an artist. Like taking that leap of leaving retail after spending 4-5 years in it hoping I could elevate and use my creativity and Fashion degree to get the career I wanted to being a full time Artist or trying to become a full time tattoo Artist. Which I am so happy and grateful that I did. Since then like I said earlier it helped me in my journey in becoming a better artist. Art has also been something that never left me. Even when I feel like my world around me is falling apart. Art has always been there so it would be crazy to not live and express the talent I was blessed with.
I also feel like I am doing what I am told to do because as a creative and a artist I learned you still have to work as simple as that. Which I don’t feel bad for doing. I seen a lot of my peers go back to a 9-5 while also still maintaining their creative business which I think is smart. Have multiple streams of income and or multiple businesses. Being a “Starving artist” or “Broke Artist” is not cute I don’t care who said it ! What I like the most is that since we are creative we are able to use our skills to elevate in the work place that we are in which can set us up with another career under our belt. I personally love the career field I am currently in. I am working in hospitality in the Downtown Columbus Ohio area which I feel like was another best decision I made. I am excited where it will take me. Check out The Capital Suites. Great People, Great Rooms, Great Food !
