Story & Lesson Highlights with Prophocey of Columbus

We recently had the chance to connect with Prophocey and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Prophocey, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First, I start off with prayer. If I don’t speak to God in the morning It throws me off for the rest of the day. Then I take a shower, or bath (Depending on how I feel lol!). Then comes breakfast. I am a huge pancake/waffle type guy. I truly believe that if you start off eating right. Your body will be able to maintain itself throughout the day. Now if it’s a workout day then the meals will be switched up with a protein shake and some fruit. Next, I get right to the emails or if it’s during the school year. I go over the lesson for today for my students. It’s always important to me to make sure I go over any thing for the day, and week. Lastly I reach out to the staff to make sure we have are all on the same page with upcoming events, and strategies for the year.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Prophocey. Multi award winning, national recording christian hip hop artist, CEO of Real Music Records, an award winning christian hip hop based label, Creative director of the award winning Artist Development Program. One of my life goal sis to be able to put a footprint into the next generation of musical artist for growth and prosperity. Without music, ministry and business. I would be playing professional basketball. Besides that. ‘m a very chill kinda guy, that loves food a good laugh, and a great work ethic.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One of the moments that I realized the world was different. Is when I realized that I can make the same income in three days. That someone could in an entire month. The work system of forty hours a week was something that I never understood. Even at a young age. I always questioned why things were how they were, and challenged it. Fast forwarding in time. After my first few yers of performances in my career. I was performing for free. Then I was approached by a prophetess who asked me what performance fee was. At the time being a rookie. I had no idea. No bar was set for me receive what all artist should be getting. A payout for your time and talent. So she told me “Baby there are two types of people in this world.” “Ones who try, and ones who don’t” “All you have too is try and you will see the difference”. I immediately said my fee was a hundred dollars. She said that’s fine and blessed me with two hundred. She was the inspiration for me to think outside the box. Know my value, and try something different.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the most disheartening times of my career. Was when I wanted something more than my clients wanted for themselves. The work load that comes with being your on boss, or entrepreneur can be extreme. To promote, book, rehearse, create the flyer, perform, and to ultimately raise above the standard can be outright scary. Almost seemingly impossible to do it all, but when you achieve it all. Succeed multiple times within a time frame. You develop a gene I like to call “It Don’t Matter”. Now medically I don’t believe this exist, but the point I’m trying make is that over time you start to realize you can do anything. That’s why when you run into people who don’t believe the same way. It can completely stop your train’s motion. I have been hurt more times from people in the industry who simply can not do more than the least, and they still complain about it. After all the time, effort, finical support, and guidance you give them. They still choose left or right over straight and narrow. It took me a while to realize that you can only heal through what made you move strong in the first place, and what made me strong was God.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public, or my fan base as they say. Knows exactly who I am through the music I put out. If you get to know me on a personal level. You would know exactly how I act, live, and move. Things that don’t make sense to me I quickly move past it like it pretty much never existed. The professional, and personal side of who I am both have a common sense perspective, spiritual, and business sense of perfection. I never have been a public person anyway. Those who want to know more can ask lol! I hope in the end. The the fans can enjoy the great music catalog that God gave me. As well as a solidified lifestyle that leads people to Jesus Christ.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
That should be the ultimate question for all humans lol! If I knew I only had ten years left in life or in the music industry. I would simply drop one more album. Purchase land. Lots of it. Build multiple homes within a community in a state that no one would even think of living in, and give all those who I know truly supported me a home for free. This would be the ultimate stepping stone for those to build generational wealth for the next generation.
