Stephen Miller II of Columbus on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Stephen Miller II. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I enjoy working out very much. I am falling in love with the process of building my physique. The discipline correlates with discipline in business and mindset development. I enjoy the environment of people working out and connects from people with same mindset.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My Brand is “To Go For Your Soul”. We’re a luxury private chef & catering service. We pride ourselves on quality, aesthetics, professionalism & experience. I am the executive Chef of the company. I go by Chefmills as a catchy title to go by but my name is Stephen Miller. I am 26 years old.

I have been cooking for 10 years so far 2015. I have worked under various chefs building my craft and techniques in order to curate my own style to provide to my clients. We travel all across the country having the privilege to serve many different businesses and individuals giving us a unique perspective of life and business.

I envisioned myself traveling and cooking and we’re bringing that vision to life which is very rewarding and eye opening from a learning and entertainment aspect. We do multi-course dinners really experimenting with our creativity as well as large catering for corporations, weddings & milestone events. Versatility is essential to be well rounded and respected in the culinary field.

We pride ourselves on custom menus for each client giving them their own intimate experience separate from any client before or after. The feeling of impacting people through food. It is a portal of connection for all of us as human beings. We all need to eat so expressing my craft to others is true blessing.

We plan on expanding our services and team very soon. I like to just show work instead of stating plans too soon so I would say just stick around to find out what’s new happening in the future

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed I was a black male that was susceptible to the systematic oppression taught. Not having my father in my life was definitely a slight struggle of self worth but I did overcome it pretty early on. I grew up with a strong religious background so my perspective of life and how to navigate the social hierarchy was different I would say. I have developed my sense of self which has been very enlightening.

I am very confident in myself through experiences of life and deep personal development to understand who I am and why I am this way. I encourage everyone to do so even though the journey is not the most comfortable. I’ve realized that my life is only controlled by me and it has changed my life for the better understanding that

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be yourself authentically. Think long term with decisions and how certain actions can completely change the trajectory of your life for better or for worse. Dive into financial literacy as early as possible and be disciplined with money best as possible for long term financial growth.

Live your life on your own terms and let people that resonate with you come into your life naturally. You only live once so make the most of it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Genuine connections, intent of purpose, following through with your word with no excuses. Wanting more out of life and wanting to grow. Honesty and integrity is very vital for me. I do enjoy my peace to allow focus and clarity to guide my future Decisions. I am a hard worker and like to lead by example rather than just talking. Respect and confidence is earned through the work you put in on a consistent basis.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I will regret not living my best available life to me. Not accomplishing my goals and dream or experiences due to fears. I would not say I never feel doubt but I don’t let it dictate my actions so I can’t fathom living a life of regret because I was too scared to not be the best version of myself. There is too much things to do in life to life a basic/safe life.
