Rising Stars: Meet Trina Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Jones.

Hi Trina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a mother of 3 children, two which are now young adults and one that’s 11years old. It was through my personal challenges and experiences with them that I identified a missing link between parents, schools and the child welfare systems.

My journey started 12 years ago when I left my daughter’s IEP meeting, and I sat in my car and cried. I felt helpless, frustrated, and like I had failed as a parent. I did not want another parent to feel what I felt or see another child lose their self-esteem like I saw my daughter lose hers.

I once heard necessity is the mother of invention it was the challenges that I experienced that inspired me to establish my business Learning Abilities Advocacy, LLC.

Learning Abilities Advocacy, LLC (LAA) works to arm parents with the tools available to help them in becoming better advocates for their child’s academic success and to empower children, at all levels of their academic development, with the skills necessary for them to confidently advocate for themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Unfortunately, the road was not smooth. I describe my journey as “trial by fire.” However, as I look back, it has become clear to me that it was those very trials that prepared me and helped me find the work I feel called to perform. Like most parents, I want my children to be happy, healthy and successful so my mission is personal. It has also allowed me to recognize that I have a real service to other parents and my community at large.

I found my voice and discovered a strength I never knew I had. My daughter learned to advocate for herself, which helped her build her confidence and self-esteem.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a special education advocate, I help families with children that have different learning styles and assist them in understand their rights when working through the special education process. I am currently focusing on creating programs to assist my clients with self-advocacy skills, building their self-esteem and confidence, and manifesting their future.

What makes you happy?
Coffee!!! I love hot coffee. It helps me clear my head.
