Rising Stars: Meet Tim Novotny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Novotny.

Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Everything started with writing and a fascination with cinema. I began writing short stories and poetry at an early age and over time, wanted to see some of these stories become motion pictures. I began acting in high school and eventually learned how to edit and compose music scores for independent features before I started making my own and establishing my production company ‘The Novotarian Syndicate’ in early 2012. Since that time, I’ve made a hand full of short films, music videos, a couple of features as well as acting in quite a few projects with the connections I’ve made along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This path has not been an easy one. There were so many struggles that I’ve had to endure that brought me to the brink of walking away from it all. But no matter how bad things get, I can’t abandon something I care so deeply about. I find it somewhat unproductive to dwell on the predicaments of the past if you’ve already learned from them. Filmmaking is Murphy’s Law; anything that can go wrong will; you just have to be quickly resourceful about how you solve the problems that come your way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I mostly specialize in Writing, directing, and acting. My other skills are in soundtrack production, camerawork and editing as well. I’m mostly known for my acting and music videos, but I’m proud of everything I’ve put work into. I think the thing that sets me apart from most others is that I’m multifaceted in different skills for any creative artistic endeavor.

As of now, I am finishing the final touches on my next featurette, ‘Born of Malice’ which will serve as a promotional media for the novella set for publication next year. I am also very excited about my next feature film, ‘The Mephistiophiliac’ which is a thriller that is currently in pre-production and slated for next year as well.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m very excited about some of the new technology that is developing in this industry. The Unreal Engine is a platform that I’ve been learning to use and gives one the ability to create an entire feature film from a keyboard. Once mastered, I hope to utilize this for future projects.
