Rising Stars: Meet Tiara J of North East Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara J

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi my name is Tiara Schaffter but my business name is Tiara J. I am a freelance makeup artist based out of N.E. Ohio, Specializing in Event, Fashion, and Editorial makeup. I started my career doing makeup services for a close friend and runway/editorial model/photographer Rachel Martin.
With that experience I was able to land my first publishing in an Ohio based magazine as a MUA and model in 2018. I continued building my business by word of mouth and social media, not branching out much from my comfort zone of Wayne county due to being a mother of 4 young children. It wasn’t until this year that I started picking up work in the Cleveland area after my life was turned upside down. Unfortunately I faced a mothers worst nightmare after finding out one of my children was being sexually abused by someone very close to us. When I became aware of the abuse, I was on maternity leave with my fourth child with no income at the time. After taking legal action immediately, Myself and my four children were displaced from our home, and stayed in an 8X10 bedroom without our belongings for 6 months. I had no choice but to dive back into doing freelance work and seeking opportunities in other areas. All while pursuing charges on the abuser and dealing with a long agonizing court process. During this time I was approached with different opportunities to do makeup for fashion shows in Cleveland’s art district and working with editorial photographers, luckily landing myself another editorial publishing this year. (Misfit magazine, Edith Magazine, Coolcleveland.com, Ingenuity fest) I’m currently pursuing an entrepreneurship degree and continuing to build my makeup artistry business. Being an entrepreneur has always been the route I’ve wanted to take in life due to the flexibility and freedoms it allows. As the daughter of an entrepreneur following my dreams and pursuing “what makes you happy” was always instilled in me. I am very much rebuilding a beautiful life for myself and my children piece by piece, while getting to pursue my greatest passion. I am very blessed.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a single mother of 4 with very little support system. Chronic illness, overcoming abusive relationships, financial losses, being faced with many trials and tribulations, having to fight for my children’s home and belongings, completely starting over my life and business from scratch, injustices of the court system.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist based in N.E Ohio specializing in Event, Fashion and editorial makeup. Mostly known for the soft glam I provide for bridal parties and events. What sets me apart from others is the best friend energy I bring to every job. Providing a shoulder to cry on, or words of encouragement. I strive to leave a positive impact on every person I meet.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck can very much go either way depending on how you look at it. I’ve had many downfalls in life when it came to the relationships I’ve had and having to start over many times. Every bit of bad luck I’ve endured to this point has made me love harder, made me a stronger mother, a wiser woman and a lot more business savvy. I feel very lucky to have experienced some of the hardships in my life.
