Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Volz.
Hi Shannon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always wanted to be a tattoo artist for as long as I can remember. I knew in the back of my head I always wanted to own my own studio. But never dwelled much on it more so building my art form and my reputation. But the pieces started to fall into place and I knew I had to. Jump on the opportunity!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
None of it has been smooth by any means. First Outer Mind Creations tattoo studio which needed to be remodeled and brought up to current codes. Of course, building a solid team and family atmosphere was no small feat as well. The next business was Stay True Barbershop which was roughly the same except for more council meetings because of zoning issues. Nothing ever goes to. Plan though as I have learned. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best but never give up!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a tattoo artist from Mansfield, Ohio born and raised. I love neo-traditional and new school-style tattooing. Bright colors, bold lines. I believe my work ethic and hunger to learn set me apart. I try to learn something new every day whether it’s with art or life in general. I’m best known for my bright colors and sculpted line work. My proudest moments will always be with my children but in my tattoo life, I’d say hands down watching all my artists at Outer Mind Creations thrive and grow.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My children will always be my biggest fans. The root me on at every show and encourage me every time I get artist block. But the amount of support I get nowadays is second to none I truly have the best family and friends in the world. All my people at the shop pushed me to grow and do better. Push my limits. Cody Lamb, Demetrius Howell, Danny Westfield, Travis Buckner, and Kyle Perry are the artist and friends that have become my brothers. Without them, I could never achieve what I have achieved.

You have not only inspired other tattoo artist but you have inspired our entire family. We see you trying hard everyday and it makes us want lto try harder and better. We just admire your Drive and devotion to your family. We Know your journey has not been easy. You have over come a lot of obstacles and that is my favorite part about your story. Keep up the hard work because it shows. You are not going unnoticed. We are so impressed with everything you have accomplished.
