Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca McGrath-Hinkle.
Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a facilitator and life-long researcher who will use various technologies and teaching methodologies to enhance my presentation of information. I am always a teacher first; with 25 plus years of experience and a Master’s Degree in Education, that is how I fit into and the view I have of the world. One of the theories I apply is Vygotsky, believing that learners build new knowledge from their previous knowledge while teaching content in a relevant approach.
I am a storyteller and writer of my lived experiences which I share in my Blog and social media post.
I have continued my education to expand upon my knowledge of scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, and kayaking. I have supervised groups of children in water and numerous outdoor activities. I have completed my first trip RV-ing from Ohio, Tennesee, Florida, Illinois and back to Ohio.
I aspire to continue my work as an educational and community leader, with positions that will help me continue to grow professionally and personally. I am passionate about building relationships with others while working with them to create a memorable and enjoyable experience. In addition to teaching, I am active in advocacy for families. I was an active member of NEA, OhEA, and the Columbus Education Association (CEA) in an advocacy and engagement of members role; specifically, as a state committee member on Social and Economic Injustices that affected my urban students.
I have hosted Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet Video sessions for families, students, and colleagues; while creating Google Classroom, Jamboards, Nearpods and other assignments for remote and blended learning settings. I am an active member of the Columbus Seanags and Underwater Connection Dive Shop for scuba divers, located in Central Ohio.
Who I am as an Author;
I am a 25+ year Teacher who just resigned from her 22-year assignment as an urban, inner-city public-school teacher. I have taught students aged Preschool-12th grade; My high school students could earn college credit from Columbus State Community College, where I am an adjunct professor since 2019. Also, I was an alumnus of this same district and college. During this time, I became a divorce survivor and single mom. Mom of an almost 19-year white male.
As an aspiring writer, during the Covid Crisis, I spent time working on my writing again. First, I met with a song lyricist and shared a piece I wrote. I have a BMI account, but I am not sure write songs, short stories, or a book. I read books and am always researching.
Lastly, I am an Autoimmune Survivor.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to learn to take U-turns and understand that the roadblocks are trying to teach me something. I have to make the best of the right and left turns that the universe sends me. As a Life-long Learner, I choice to survive and make the best of every opportunity that comes along my road. That means accepting the roadblocks.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do what I say! I ask questions, and I want to learn something new every day.
Facebook calls me a “Digital Creator.”
I try to lift up and support others, not as someone who has it all figured out but as a real person who shares their truths.
What are your plans for the future?
I am looking to continue my knowledge of scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, and kayaking while planning adventures in my RV. I will Blog and post about them as well.
