Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Weiss.
Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was originally born in Alice Springs, Australia, and I lived there for the first half of my life. My grandparents got sick right around the recession in 2008, and my parents wanted to move back to the States where they lived, so they could be closer to them during that time. We ended up moving back and living in Dayton, OH, and I finished middle and high school here before attending university in Chicago, IL. I studied at DePaul University in their computer science program before later dropping out due to personal issues. After dropping out, I moved to Cincinnati with my friends where I’ve resided since then. My love for photography started with my grandfather who always carried around a Kodak disposable with him wherever he went, and it developed into a full-blown obsession when I was at university. After dropping out, I’ve worked a lot of odd jobs while doing photography in my free time!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not always been a smooth ride. I actually was a computer science major with a concentration in software development before I picked up photography. I was completely set on becoming a digital programmer when I entered college, and then I took a digital photography class my freshman year and fell in love. I eventually dropped out from school due to personal issues, and I’ve worked a lot of jobs to pay my bills while still doing photography in my free time. Hopefully, in the future, I’ll be able to have photography as my main job and everything else as a side hustle!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer based in Cincinnati, OH. I specialize in maternity, wildlife, and portrait photography. I’m known for getting myself into funny positions in order to get the shot. By this, I mean that I’ve climbed trees, balanced off of cliffs, hung upside down, so I can get the perfect shot and angle. I’m most proud of the maternity shoot that I did with my friend, Ellana last year. I think the combination of my work with wildlife with everything else I do sets me apart because most of my portrait and maternity shoots have combined my love for nature with my professional paid work.
What’s next?
I’m actually currently in the midst of moving! I got an awesome opportunity earlier this year to move out to Olympia, WA to continue my work as a photographer. I’m incredibly stoked for the chance to check out the Pacific Northwest especially because it’ll be my first time!
