Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My business was given to me by my ex-husband as a birthday gift. I went to him with an idea I had about starting my own athletic wear. I always had a passion for gym shoes and sportswear growing up. He listened and helped my dream become reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting out, I had trouble figuring out what my brand was going to represent for me. I had to do some soul-searching so I could create something authentic and unique. I was scared, and I didn’t know where to start. I did the work and traveled to get and learn about the product I needed. I studied a process called fabrication because I wanted my product to be the best. my business took off immediately. Success came quicker than my knowledge which caused a lot of anxiety and stress in my life. Trying to be perfect and not making mistakes as an entrepreneur caused a lot of insecurities in myself. Not only did I start a business, I was newly married. My ex was an excellent businessman, so I learned a lot from him.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My brand is called Femme Porter. It’s is a luxury athletic and athleisure wear brand that promotes self-love and healing through fashion. I try my best to exemplify this through my everyday life through women empowerment with self and my community. It has always been easy for me to be positive and show love to others. I have a quote that I say; I am strong, I am beautiful, I am femme porter. I am strong means I made it, I am beautiful means look at me now, and I am femme porter is the cloth of a woman. My brand is the brand that protects you and allows you to be free to be you. I am most proud of myself because I am a survivor, and I have overcome many obstacles in my life, mainly childhood pain and abuse as a young adult. The most recent loss I took was my marriage which devastated my life but truly showed me at the same time what it truly means to be the cloth of a woman. What sets me apart from others is my ambition. I am passionate about everything I do and determined. I have been this way since I was a little girl. I am proud of myself because I was the little broken girl who turned into a strong woman.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I want to own a greenhouse and a farm. I would love to learn more about agriculture.
