Rising Stars: Meet Miriam Conner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Conner.

Miriam Conner

Miriam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Aurora, OH, and graduated from Judson College in Elgin, IL, and then earned my master’s degree in education from Ashland University. I have been a teacher for 27 years and teaching has been very rewarding. Challenging but rewarding. I love working with high school students and watching them succeed.

I am the host of “aParently Speaking,” Northeast Ohio Magazine’s podcast. I love talking to people about parenting, and over the last 100 episodes, I have met so many wonderful people. I am very passionate about parenting, and I believe it is the most important job. The podcast is a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to the next 100 episodes.

I have also had the privilege of helping to create a local community magazine, Walden Life. It has been so much fun learning about this business and to be able to hear so many stories of inspiring people.

I have been married to my husband, Ryan, for 32 years. We have three fabulous kids- Callie (20), Coby (17), and Carlie (13). They are the lights of my life, and there is never a dull moment, which is exactly how I like things. We love to spend as much time together as we can. My faith is also very important to me and guides my decisions.

I have some new projects in the works, so stay tuned.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say that I am still “on the road.” I still have many goals that I want to achieve. There are always obstacles, and oftentimes, the biggest obstacle is myself. I get busy or talk myself out of going for certain things, but I think you have to keep pursuing your dreams, and those can even change. The way I live my life is by trying to do what I think God would have for me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I created and hosted a parenting podcast, “aParently Speaking,” for Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine and am the associate publisher and editor of Walden Life Magazine. a local community magazine. The podcast and magazine are both part of Mitchell Media LLC.

I have recorded 100 episodes of the podcast and counting. I have been able to talk about my favorite topic: parenting and meet so many great people and experts in the field and other parents who want to be the best they can. I love talking to people, and I have been told that I can talk to anyone, haha. I am proud of the longevity, that I had an idea, and that to be able to see it come to fruition is exciting.

“aParently Speaking” won a GOLD award for BEST PODCAST at the 2023 Parenting Media Association’s (PMA) annual convention and awards ceremony, held on November 3 in Chicago. This annual competition recognizes and rewards editorial, design, and general excellence in local and regional parenting publications across the U.S.

Walden Life Magazine is something else started from an idea and I have a great team that helps make it a success. I have also been able to meet so many interesting people that I may not have ever had the opportunity to meet and I have been able to learn about people and help to being the community together by residents getting to know their neighbors.

What I am most proud of is my three kids. They are the motivation behind everything I do, and they amaze me daily.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I am always looking for guests who would be a good fit for the podcast as well as sponsors for the podcast and Walden Life Magazine.

I also have some other things that are currently in the works!

Listen and subscribe to “aParently Speaking” everywhere podcasts are found, and email me at miriam@northeastohioparent.com
