Rising Stars: Meet Mecca Freeman of Cincinnati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mecca Freeman

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born with the talent of dance and in a section of my life’s journey I got distracted with life and pushed it to the background of my mind. That was until I needed it to pull me out of a deep depression. I’d come home from work everyday whilst living in London, UK and the only thing that would lift my spirits was putting in my headphones, slipping some heels on and dancing until I got tired. During those times I’d engage in mirror affirmations and guided self-love meditations. Over the course of just a few months it changed me drastically from the inside out and I hosted my first class January 2018 to offer this same formula to women who may have been experiencing the same distress that I was at the time. And that is how Confidence Builds In Heels (CBIH) was born. Today I am grateful to bring woman together in love and community, offering a space of healing through soulful and intentional movement.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Some of the struggles I’ve faced were imposter syndrome because I did not grow up in a professionally trained school as dance is a natural born talent of me. As well as realizing that I was more than just a dance instructor but a leader- this realization led me to become greater than what I’ve imagined myself to be and it was pretty intimidating, on top of financial obligations to keep hosting classes and events related to dance while honoring my personal dance dreams. I had to do some deep internal work to separate my personal needed from my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a spiritual movement choreographer and director. I specialize in assisting others in their healing journey guiding them back home to their authentic selves through intentional and soulful movement. I am most proud that my dance organization CBIH has celebrated six years this month and is steadily grown in each day. What sets me apart from others is my keen awareness of what is happening at a deeper level with others and my ability to offer tools from my gifts to guide them back to their divine selves.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
What most people don’t know about me is that hip-hop is my favorite style of dance. Also that I was primarily a spiritual healer before giving most of my energy and time to dance.
