Rising Stars: Meet Laura Hawk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Hawk.

Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I Started my own interior design business out of school when I was 23 and living in Green Bay WI. We moved back to Columbus more full-time 4 years ago and I brought an assistant on a year after that. Lexie my assistant and I travel all over the country designing beautiful estates for our clients. We are full service and work directly with architects to start new builds from the ground up and also do a lot of high-end renovations. It’s a true joy learning about all the wonderful families we serve and making their homes perfect respite for them from the outside world!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always learning curves and struggles, especially through the pandemic. Our industry has been affected quite a bit in both good and bad ways. The positives that have risen out of all this are that people are spending lots of time in their homes and are now anxious to change them to fit their needs. The negative has been the impact on production, freight, heavy lead times are the new norm in our business and it can be very frustrating. Where we used to be able to wrap up jobs for our clients in a timely fashion we no longer have that luxury. Things that took weeks to be made or delivered are now taking closer to a year or more! We hope this all goes back to normal soon because it has definitely caused unneeded stress and conflict for designers!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We start at the beginning with our clients in helping them create a beautiful abode that fits their family’s lifestyle and needs. We specialize in exterior and interior finishes from every last hinge all the way to what type of sheets and bedding are put on their beds! We love the details! I’m proud that I’ve been able to do what I love for so long and be able to be a mom to four young kids. I think balance is important and I love the yin and yang of my home life and my work! I think stylistically speaking what sets us off from others is our ability to do any style. Many firms strictly specialize in one look and that’s not us! We can do anything and have! We love to add funk and interest in everything we touch. The unexpected intrigues us and we hope to incorporate it in any and all designs we put our name on!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I like to think things are less about luck and more about faith. I’m a Christian and believe God runs the show! I’m just living in the world hoping to do justice in emulating Christ-like behavior! Sometimes things work out because they are supposed to and in that same line of thinking God finds ways to alter your path because it’s not in line with His. As hard as unfortunate scenarios can be, I do believe there’s always a reason or purpose.
