Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Lambert.
Hi Kenny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Four years ago— I was homeless and addicted to drugs & alcohol. The birth of my daughter, Amelia, became the catalyst of my own self-growth. I’m proud to say that today, I’m 3 years sober, and the owner of Just A Dad From Akron. I grew up in the Akron/Kenmore neighborhood and felt driven to inspire change in my community. In March 2020, I made the decision to launch Just A Dad From Akron. It would be more than just a brand. I thought to myself, “This is a movement.” A Movement built to inspire anyone in the community who would listen, to “Be the change Akron needs”. Just A Dad From Akron sells apparel printed with our branding and positive messages to empower the wearer. From there, we use a portion of the proceeds to host free events and offer relief to the community through different outreach programs. Some of our favorite events would include our “Back 2 School” event hosted in connection with 4 Bro’s & A Sis Lemonade Stand, Not Just October, Ethicrace & HallOfFame Barbershop. Where together we gave away over 450 backpacks stuffed with school supplies, free lunches, and haircuts. Our “Feed The City” event where we were able to provide 500 free meals to our community. And our most annual “Christmas Present Giveaway” which was able to provide Christmas presents for over 200 families in need. Our goal is to continue providing service to the community in hopes to promote change, positivity, and inspiration. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At first, everything was smooth sailing, lots of learning along the way, hard work & 3 am nights printing merchandise to fulfill orders and storefront inventory. There has been months where I’ve only got 4 hours of sleep at night because the want to succeed & make a change has driven me to a new level of wanting to be great.
One of the biggest struggles for myself would be learning more about the deep details of business. I don’t have any school degree; I barely got my HS diploma. So, learning the business world of things has been more difficult for me that others.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Designing & screen printing. Just A Dad From Akron is a clothing brand/movement that I started I. march 2020. I wanted to bring positive inspirational shirt designs to the community/world and inspire anyone, that they can make a difference.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I pride myself on being very transparent with the followers & community. There aren’t any secrets when it’s come to my story.
