Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Alonso.
Hi Kelly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve been a Licensed Esthetician for 16 years & it was my personal struggles with acne and other skin issues throughout adolescence and into my early twenties that led me here. I felt like I had tried everything to clear my skin- dermatologists, medications, etc. but nothing helped me. In my early 20s, I finally went to see an Esthetician and it changed my life! I finally had clear skin and learned how to keep it clear. It made such an impact on every aspect of my life and I knew that I wanted to do the same for others! Over the years, I worked at some of the top salons and medi-spas which provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience, but, something was always missing. I wanted to focus on corrective treatments and help people surpass their skin goals. I realized that if I wanted the perfect place, I had to create it! So in January 2020- my dream came to fruition!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I decided to take the plunge and open my own esthetics salon, I had no idea about starting a business! I began the process in May of 2019 and was finally ready to open at the beginning of 2020, I had no idea that a pandemic was right around the corner. On March 18th, 2020, just two months and four days after opening, all salons were ordered to close. I was crushed! I had worked so hard and invested so much time to just give up on my dream. I had to see it get a real chance at being successful. I was not going to give up! I used that time to obtain additional certifications and focused on marketing. After two months, salons were allowed to re-open but with Covid numbers rising, it was difficult getting people in the door.
I’d always practiced universal precautions but nobody knew that. Nobody knew I’d worn gloves and a mask my whole career. Nobody knew the degree to which I disinfected, sanitized, and sterilized. Nobody knew that the salon was one of the safest places to be! So I waited. And waited. Many weeks went by with not one appointment. I waited some more. Many times I felt like maybe I should just give it up but every time I had those thoughts- somebody new would schedule. I’d get a five-star review. A client would come back. They’d refer someone to me. I finally started to get regular clients on a consistent basis. There will always be room for growth, especially in this industry, but I am proud of how far I’ve come in a relatively short time, especially during a pandemic.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Licensed Esthetician and Certified Acne Expert who specializes in treating skin of color. I’m known for getting results, my 90-day boot camp, and my personality!
I believe what sets me apart the most is my dedication to each and every client. I’m always available for questions and concerns and there are many nights I’m up late researching to find the right solutions to their skin concerns. I’m right there with them throughout the process and beyond. I know firsthand how acne & other skin conditions affect a person’s confidence, which, in turn, can affect every aspect of a person’s life.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in the 80s & 90s was so much fun! I have countless good memories, many of which involve my friend of 35 years, Brenda.
