Rising Stars: Meet Janeé Hall of Grandview

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeé Hall

Janeé, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Janeé aka JaneeDBeauty and I am an advanced licensed esthetician and permanent cosmetic artist located here in beautiful Columbus, OH. I provide an array of beauty services such as facials and makeup, however I am most known for my specialization in eyebrow services. I currently provide about 30 different combination of brow services with my most popular being custom brow shaping and coloring services. I also own a very well loved brow line called That’s My Ish! That currently consist of brow pencils that come in a unique matte finish in comparison to most traditional brow pencils that mimics that of natural hair to enhance the brows giving them a more natural appearance.

I am originally from a small town here in Ohio called Piqua. I have always been in love with the beauty industry as long as I can remember. My mother use to always let me to play in her hair and I was the little girl at slumber parties playing beautician to all my cousins and friends.

Once I got in high school, my parents allowed me to attend a joint vocational school while also still going to my home school. I graduated with my cosmetology license the same year I finished high school. I thought for sure hair is what I wanted to get into once I graduated, however as with many young people, I started to question if I should be doing other things as all my friends were going off to college.

I’ve also always had a love for fashion as well so I decided to take a hiatus and pursue fashion for a while. I attended school at the art institute of Michigan and studied art and fashion. While on campus I was also the girl doing everyone’s makeup, getting request to work on photoshoots for student fashion shows and editorials shoots, and in doing so it made me fall back in love with the beauty industry all over again.

All my friends and family would say “girl you just need to get back into pursuing the beauty industry, this is what you were meant to do!” And they were right. As much as I loved fashion, my heart was always with the beauty industry first.

My biggest push and motivation to fully pursue my passion though was my daughter. Something about becoming a mother lights something in you to go after your dreams. How could I tell my daughter she could be anything she wanted if I wasn’t living by example. So once I moved back to Ohio and about a year after I had my daughter, I decided to go back to spa school again, but this time to focus on esthetics.

I owed it to myself and her to see myself at my fullest potential. And I believe when God blesses you with a gift, it’s to share it and help others. I am a true believer that our talents/gifts are in alignment with our purpose, and when we walk in our purpose, it allows us to be a blessing to others. Whether it’s healing someone or just the ability to make someone smile, it all matters.

So I knew this is what I was meant to be doing. I documented some of my journey online while in spa school and began to receive job offers before while in school. Once I graduated spa school in 2017 I took a leap of faith and jumped all in! I worked for a couple of salons and focused on honing my craft and just building genuine relationships with my clients.

During those earlier years of working in this industry, I would have never pictured brows to be as important as they are today. I am a product of the 90’s and early 2000’s where people over plucked and put little to no care into the thought of what the brows did to the face,

But more and more I was getting walk-ins and request for brow services, the industry was shifting and I made it my job to study and perfect my craft. I remember when brow lamination first started to become mainstream. I studied a lot of pro artist at the time who were in other parts of the world who was already offering this amazing service.

I didn’t see too many artist at that time offering it here but I knew so many women who had been wanting to get that full bushy brow look and this was the perfect service to make it happen. I ended up adding the service and offering it to clients and it immediately took off. I credit that service as the one that really got my name out there.

Which is why I encourage newer beauty professionals wanting to break into the industry to not get discouraged and be open to trying new things. Sometimes what you think you want to do and what you end up falling in love with will be two different things. Trust the process and know everything happens in its perfect timing :).

After that happened my clientele continued to grow thanks to the word of mouth of my amazing clients, and I eventually branched out on my own in March of 2021. Since then I expanded my brand into the cosmetic industry as well as added back in my love of fashion, cause I truly believe those two worlds go hand in hand. So I also host thrift pop up shops and do various vending events where I sell women’s thrift clothing and accessories.

I count it a blessing I get to do what I love every day, and not a second goes by that I take it for granted, I take joy and pride in knowing I play a part in making someone’s day; helping them feel their best version of themselves.

You never know what people are going through, so I make it my goal to love on each and every person that sits in my chair. I have the most purest and genuine bond with my clients. We celebrate each other’s wins, we share priceless moments and that is worth more than anything. I have a saying that I say to my clients and that is, “it’s more than a service, it’s an experience.” You can get a service anywhere, but my goal is to create an atmosphere where you leave better than when you came in and I’d like to believe I do just that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t always been smooth. In school alone I had a couple of times where I had to put it on pause cause I was also working full time and being a mom. Trying to juggle being a full time student/job/motherhood was one of the hardest things but I’m grateful for my village and not letting me give up.

Also I was presented with new challenges once I entered into the world of entrepreneurship. You have to be very self motivated to be an entrepreneur. Social media only shows the highlight reels, but there are long days and long nights. Sometimes I have to miss out on things that I don’t want to, you have days where you feel like nothing is going right, but you have to keep pushing, if it’s t was easy, everyone would be doing it.

I probably answered this in more detail in the bio page lol, but I am an advanced licensed esthetician and master brow artist. I am most known for my work with brows, I am extremely proud of not only my work, but the relationship I have built with my clients over the years. I take pride in my ability to remember every story and every detail. I treat my clients like the amazing people they are. Each service is a customized experience for them and I am proud I am able to provide a safe space for them to be themselves.

I am also proud of myself for expanding my brand. Within the past year I dropped the first product in my product line that has sold out twice and this year I branched into teaching for the first time. For anyone who knows me, I am a behind the scenes kind of girl lol, so it was out my comfort zone to be in the forefront teaching. However it has been extremely rewarding helping others and so worth pushing past all the mental blocks.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would say I took a major risk stepping out as an entrepreneur. With me not being originally from Columbus, I had no family here so I truly had to build my clients from the ground up . Again I am a behind the scenes kind of gal lol, so not only being in the forefront but being the face and name behind the brand can make you feel very vulnerable. It has forced me outside my comfort zone. But to truly grow you have to be willing to step outside your comfort zone, so here we are. I believe in doing things afraid, you don’t have of be strong to do something, you just have to be willing to try.
