Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamyla Mitchell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Jamyla Mitchell speaking, 21-year-old hairstylist/future fashion icon. I’ve always been into fashion as long as I can remember. I was basically born into the fashion world. I started off by doing my dolls hair & cutting hair off my mom’s mannequins, she’s a stylist too by the way. Fast forward to high school I started to do my own hair and I got compliments almost every day from head to toe. Age 16 I begun doing hair in the living room and it wasn’t easy. I made a lot of mistakes but I never gave up, that is why I am now working in my own salon suite and one of the best stylists out. Self-made black woman who works for herself and is able to feed her family because she believed and still believes in her dreams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth for me, if it were to be smooth, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I’ve faced obstacles, such as not being able to please clients to even me wanting to give up due to underestimating myself. I had to learn to accept the criticism that has made me better, if no one can tell you what you’re doing wrong you’ll think you’re right all the time and won’t be able to accept the things you don’t want to hear. Overall, I’d say no matter what obstacles you face if you really want something you have to keep pushing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I don’t see myself as just a hairstylist, I am a creator, designer and I make women look/feel good. I am proud to be someone who can help others boost their confidence and to be able to bring others’ ideas to life. I am a stiver, I seek greatness and I have many talents. I am known for looking good, hustling, never giving up, and not caring what people think of me. I am a blessing to this world people are inspired by me just being Myla Monae. My creativity and divergence speak volume.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about my city is mostly everyone I know is an entrepreneur or is looking to see greater than just Ohio. We all have talents that are worth being seen worldwide! What I like least is how everyone doesn’t come together to help each other get further, everyone thinks people are copying what they do but in reality, we all are inspired by something that already exists.

I am truly inspired by my niece! She’s definitely a go-getter and always have been. Her passion to be a ‘somebody’ started when she was a little girl dancing with her drill team! We knew she was special! What we didn’t know was all the other talents that followed behind! She has always stood out in the crowd. This is only the beginning for her! I am so happy to be a relative of her’s! Belonging to a praying family has definitely paved the way for her – continue believing Jamyla, we love you!

My Myla is an inspiration to Many!!! (Myself,Young and Older) She was voted “Most likely to become a Millionaire” in High School & that set tone for her Adult Years!!! Raising her was a pleasure I’ve watched her break the Mold in many ways. I’ve supported her dreams and accomplishments in any way that I could because I BELIEVE in HER! Continue to go against the grain My Love❤️
