Rising Stars: Meet Jake Jessie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Jessie.

Hi Jake, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Jake Jessie, aka JJ937; I was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 1st, 1995. Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a baby. I remember having Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album on cassette tape when I was like 2 years old, and I would take it and perform my own little shows wherever my parents took me. I was a performer before I even knew it lol around the age of 5 my older brother showed me hip-hop, that day changed my life. I was instantly hooked on it. I always performed in my head, acted like I was the artist rapping; I never thought I could rap tho. I couldn’t comprehend how they could think so fast and come up with metaphors off the top of their heads. When I got a little older, I learned they write it, but that helped me get good at freestyles, always practicing to do it off the top. Me and my friends would always rap and battle each other For fun, no one really took it serious. One of the first people that I saw takin it serious was my boy Charles, and he had a microphone at his crib. I had all sorts of raps written already I always wrote just never had a mic or really thought I could do it good enough, so I just stacked ’em up. I recorded a song and was hooked ever since, we had a lil group called Dameana Recklezz that had Charles (A – Tony), Bryan (BKKM), Adeana Manuel, B Rose, and me in it, and we would go and perform wherever we could. Eventually, that all split up, and everyone went their separate ways. I was ready to go solo, I had been practicing with fl studio for a while, so I started recording in my parents’ basement. That’s all I would do every day. I went to icb. That’s a college for music, I didn’t stay the whole time, but I did meet people that will forever be like family to me. I met My brother, Ricky (MFBL MILL) there, and we ain’t ever stop keepin in touch. He’s one of the only people that call just to see how I’m doing and if I’m ok. He’s doing big things right now he works very hard on his craft; we are gonna be dropping an album soon, so y’all look out for that. But anyway, I took a lot of time off from music that I wish I never did, but I went through a lot when my dad passed away. That had me down for a while. And I have a son, his name is Elias; once he came around, everything slowed down. But I couldn’t stay away from it for too long, and I started back up. And I feel like I’m better than I’ve ever been at this. It’s all I know. Music was the only thing I had to go to in super dark times and just spill my heart out. I love it because it’s like a time stamp. When you get older, you can see how you felt at that exact moment. It’s not just about getting famous or money, yeah, I would love that, but there is a bigger picture; I’m going to do this whether I “make it” or not. I just hope there’s people out there that can relate and get something outta my music that’s making it in my eyes. But as of today, I’m a solo artist; my music is on all platforms under JJ937; you can ALSO find everything on my YouTube channel @jj937music

I got a lot of big things on the way, so stay tuned, I’ve been working harder than ever, and I’m ready for whatever comes my way. Thanks for reading this y’all will be seeing me soon

Sincerely,

– JJ937
