Today we’d like to introduce you to Ignacio Orellana.
Hi Ignacio, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a music lover since an early age. Originally, I’m from Chile, where I began my love for rock music and drumming by listening to Soda Stereo, G.I.T., Enanitos Verdes, and more. They called it ’Rock Latino’ back then. Around 1987, a friend gave me a cassette with a different kind of music and that was it for me… Kreator ‘Pleasure to Kill’.
This new music opened my eyes and ears, and put me on a path that today has granted me a large variety of skills and possibilities that have been an important part of my life, giving me the strength and the vision to continue improving and defining myself with each day.
I am a drummer and a full-time photographer based in New York City. In 1997, I obtained my Television degree, and since then i have been working with images, audio, and video from the analog times to the current digital era. In addition to photography, i’ve been playing drums, recording albums, doing tours, and many more exciting music ventures. As a photojournalist, I currently work with publicists and metal labels playing concerts, shooting, and doing interviews with bands that are going through New York on tour. Plus many other disciplines that allows me to create income such as 3D Virtual Videos, Food and real estate photography as well as secret proposals and engagement photos along with music video productions and editing. Yep i am always that busy. 🙂
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I guess the obstacles can be divided in a variety of forms but the most important one gotta be the amount of people that is doing what i am doing. There are too many todays day that have never studied or have a certificate that validates your skills and mastery, they have learn via youtube tutorials and of course the commodity of having a mobile device. Everyone can do anything without the effort of yesterday, that is the challenge… to keep up with the new trend. We never applied what we know because we have to learn something else in order to keep up with the app, the algorithm… life.
Everything else just adds up tp it, the age, the language, your taste, etc, etc. No one said it was going to be easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Drummer, first studio recording was in 1992, since then many albums and tours.
Video production, as a musician i have a gift for the editing so i apply it to my work and the work of others.
Producer, from one end to the other, in 201o started to work with midi files and by 2014 i was doing recordings that ended up being 2 full albums. Recoded them and mixed them and mastered them.
Photographer, in 2012 started working as a wedding photographer and developed the skill enough to do it with couples, models and much more. Today i work on my own company called: MY Experience NYC LLC where i use all of the knowledge acquired throughout the years since my degree ceremony.
I guess what sets me apart from the rest is that i have been back and forth on the rollercoaster of the game, so the result it will always be the best i could give no matter the challenge.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
This is where the fun begins, you gotta take some risks, if you want to get ahead of the game. In my personal case i just do what i feel and that means i do not think more than 5 seconds about a decision. I just do specially if its a bout moving forward. Sometime money is a big help but when there is not much money to spend, you gotta do the work, so there is that’s time to use your skills that you have learnt along the way. i believe that risk is a factor on the success of any operation so if the result needs to be big, the risk gotta be bigger but the satisfaction of proving to yourself that you are right, has no price.
