Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Stevens.
Hi Erin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started working in the foodservice industry at the age of 14 at the Cadet Cafeteria located in West Point, NY. Through high school and college, I always worked in restaurants, after college I began my professional kitchen career with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants in Columbus, Ohio. I worked in corporate dining for many years while my son was little, eventually taking the Executive Chef position at Mapfre Stadium with the Columbus Crew. In 2016 a high school friend David Stein approached me about opening a restaurant together. In 2018 we opened our first Stein Brewing Company in Mount Vernon, Ohio
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always, I came up he ranks of the kitchen when there weren’t a lot of women in positions of authority, it took a lot of confidence and a thick skin to work my way up and to be respected by my peers, being a single mom it was difficult to leave the fast pace and excitement of a restaurant and go into corporate dining, and then making the switch to professional sports and feeding stadiums was another challenge, The hardest has been opening a restaurant and then being hit by a global pandemic 1 year in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a restaurant owner and chef. Known for taking simple everyday food and putting a twist on it to make it exciting and fun. I’m most proud of my family and children. We’re different in that we offer a big city feel in small Ohio towns.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
My favorite week of the year every year is the week I spend in Bethany Beach, De with my extended family. I grew up an Army Brat and never had friends for more than a few years growing up so my cousins are my best friends and the people that know me best.
