Rising Stars: Meet Courage of Cincinnati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courage

Courage, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m the youngest of out of all my siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Growing up I always was exposed to different types of music and because of that I gained a love for music. Once I became a teenager in high school I went to this summer camp called Upward Bound and I became cool with a lot of the older kids there and heard a bunch more of different music. I began to explore different genres of music and artists of music on my own even more. In that same camp during lunch we have rap battles and I was undefeated because out of everyone I just had a natural ability to be able to not only rhyme words well and make sense out of my lines but I was also able to be funny and witty with my my bars. Fast forward to after high school, I linked up with my boy Ahdeo(pronounced like Audio) and started doing music with him after my childhood best friend Clinton kept telling me that I needed to start taking music seriously. After recording that first song with Ahdeo I found out that I had a talent in music. Me and Ahdeo also started GVO (GOOD VIBEZ ONLY) together and over the years expanded the group. Fast forward to now we’re a pretty respected group around the city. People know us as the group that always perform with high energy and know how to bring people along for the ride to vibe out with us. We very versatile as there’ isn’t just one type of music we make. We still got a lot more to accomplish but with the team we got now (Trey Clue, Ahdeo, Chase B, Quan, Dyami, and myself) were bound to continue to reach even greater heights.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road at the beginning but that’s to be expected. With music it’s now right or wrong way to really do things. Everyone’s path is different. One of the biggest struggles we had starting off was figuring out who really wanted it and who was down for the cause. A lot of times when dealing with a group of people sometimes you gotta deal with people that wanna tag along but don’t want to put any of the work in. Similar to when you’re working on a group project in school and it’s that one person, sometimes multiple people in the group that aren’t pulling their weight but still want an A at the end . But once we got that sorted out things became a lot easier. The only other struggles we ever had were just little things like dealing with janky promoters, and shit like that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a rapper, co founder of GVO ent., and photographer.

I pretty much record my own music in my own studio setup and with my own equipment. I also do photography from time to time. I make a lot of my own cover arts, promo videos, etc.

Some of the things that I’m most proud of is just being able to find a passion in something that’s positive. One of the biggest things that put a smile on my face is that my mother is able to genuinely appreciate my music and vibe out to it. She didn’t have to worry about her son being in the streets or doing dumb shit. I’m doing something positive.

What sets me from others is my sound and versatility.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as the feeling of accomplishment but wanting more and to keep on going and achieving more and more.
