Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Turner.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My Mom was an artistic person, so I was always creating arts and crafts growing up. I was raised around it. Art was my favorite subject in school. I was Art Club President in High School. My major in college (OU) was Marketing (BBA), but I took as many art classes as electives as I could. I go in cycles of creating artwork and not, but it seems I can’t stop creating things. So, I create more opportunities for myself to be around artistic people and activities, teaching art, and displaying it. It’s all art, all the time with me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t know that art is ever a smooth path, whether it be as an amateur artist or a professional artist. You’re always practicing and attempting to learn something. You’re fixing something you goofed on the piece you’re working on. You’re researching how to get to point B and complete something you have in your mind. You’re always learning and being a learner and teacher; I love that. It’s also definitely not smooth financially. If you want to make total or supplemental income through your art, you’ll have ups and downs in income.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a little bit of everything. I get bored and want to try or learn something new. I do collage, acrylic painting, photography, paint pouring, fine art modeling, and more. If it’s arts or crafts related, I want to do it, and I want to learn it. I have been freelance teaching art for years. I co-own a painting party company, which was the first painting party in Muskingum County, and employ local artists and assistants. We bring the art party to local wineries, bars, and people’s homes and teach them how to paint beginner-level acrylic paintings.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Art is everything. Art is for everyone.
