Rising Stars: Meet Bianca Brooks and Shawnee Renee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Brooks and Shawnee Renee. They and their team shared their story with us below:

The podcast has gone through so much since its original conception. What started off as a place for two friends to get to together and chat turned into a platform where we have real discussions about things that everyone is experiencing, but no one really wants to talk about. We share our experiences to remind our listeners that they are not alone. Our goal is to create a space for people to be entertained but also informed, affirmed, and inspired. We often have guests join us to provide input and provide additional resources.

Bianca is an author, developer, and mom to a nine-year-old daughter. She is passionate about creating spaces for women to feel seen, uplifted, and motivated. She uses her poetry as a way to inspire others. She has written three poetry book and two fictional novels, all available on Amazon. She hopes to continue to find new ways to cheer on others and make them feel like the best versions of themselves.

Shawnee is a corporate professional with a passion for family, cooking, creating, and travel. She thrives in helping those around her reconnect with themselves and navigate difficult life transitions. When she isn’t working in the office or producing on one of her podcasts, you can find her doing yoga, enjoying the fresh air, or developing her next big idea.

Together we make up Mindful B.S. podcast. Join us every Monday on all streaming platforms for a dose of mindfulness with a splash of entertainment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. We had no experience in audio production, recording, or formatting a podcast. We self-taught ourselves everything and are still striving to become better. Working with friends or family also has its challenges. There was a period in which the podcast went on a hiatus because our personal relationship was in a grey area. There’s actually an episode titled “Iyanla Fix Our Friendship,” in which we hash out our issues on the show, and it gets real! When you’re working in any form of media, unexpected issues our bound to happen, but it has taught us to be open-minded, stay optimistic, and be consistent. We have grown so much over the course of our show, and it’s great to be able to listen back and see that evolution along the way.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We host a weekly podcast called Mindful B.S. We specialize in creating a community in which we inform, uplift, and inspire. We are most proud of the impact our shows, stories, and experiences have had on the lives of our listeners. We believe the thing that sets apart from others is our vulnerability, so often people feel like they are the only ones going through something, and we are a weekly reminder that they are not alone.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Well, if you listen to our show, you’ll find that Bianca has her shares of unfortunate events. While she often shares good news, there is always an interesting follow-up story about the challenges she had to overcome to get there. A true testament that life throws you curve balls, but you just have to keep dodging them. Shawnee is more of a believer of divine timing and believes whatever happens happens. Regardless of good or bad luck, Shawnee believes in focusing on what you can control and making the best of any situation.
