Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Archer.
Hi Bethany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began preserving flowers in 2021 after I experienced a loss and wanted to hold onto the memories. Shortly after, I was entrusted with flowers from another funeral to make creations for their family. Friends began telling friends – and soon enough I was pressing wedding bouquets, funeral arrangements, anniversary flowers, garden flowers and more! At the time I was working a corporate 9-5 job and preserving flowers as a side hobby. I took on only a few orders a month. My creative brain needed an outlet from the burnout of a desk job. I truly thought it would stay a side hobby until I received over 50 orders in one month and deposits for future orders a year away! I was receiving flower shipments from all over the United States. I was 9 months pregnant at the time with a toddler as well. So many fears flooded my mind as I contemplated quitting my “safe” and “comfortable” desk job. Looking back it was the best decision I could have made for myself, my family and the business. I turned in my two weeks, moved my business out of my basement and into a commercial unit and hired employees! I have now partnered with flower shops, bridal boutiques and funeral homes on reaching clients locally and nationally to preserve their sentimental flowers forever. I am so thankful to grow with this business and for all of my past, current and future clients!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were a few roadblocks as my business started growing. It felt like the worst timing yet best timing as I was pregnant with my second baby. I was hesitant to leave a good company with steady income but I saw the potential in my small business. The flexibility alone has been a tremendous help as a mom of two littles!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a floral preservation artist. Flowers hold memories and I want my clients to cherish them forever! Whether their flowers are from the celebration of a wedding or the loss of a loved one, I want these memories to be pressed in time and even passed down as an heirloom. I specialize in the wildflower style arrangement; however, I love working with new designs and layouts!
