Today we’d like to introduce you to Ax Stinnett.
Hi Ax, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In 2013, I joined a production company called “hitRECord.org,” and we earned an Emmy together with “HitRECord on TV: Season 1” within that first year. In 2020, I designed a shirt that raised $2,500+ for Black Lives Matter. During that same year, I composed, wrote, and collaborated with friends to make an EP called “Peaceful Protest,” as a form of protest against police brutality, systemic racism, and other civil issues. I’ve made a tradition of running a yearly t-shirt fundraiser for charity every summer, and I continue to collaborate musically with friends on and off-stage.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve dealt with homelessness, addiction, and suicidal ideation before. In 2014, after a bout of severe depression, I attempted a cross-country trek from Columbus, OH, to Los Angeles, CA. I didn’t complete the journey, instead making it only to Austin, TX, before turning back. Along the way though, I collected epiphanies and spent a lot of that time looking inward. I still see that whole experience as the catalyst for my personal growth and change.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design graphics for a wide range of applications, from web design to physical printing. I also produce music, write raps, and perform improv comedy. I love working towards a shared goal on large projects with a team of other artists. I believe what truly sets me apart is not my creativity itself but my capacity to love.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Consistency. Learning to hold myself accountable for my actions and also building a reputation for doing the right thing in any situation. I allow myself the time to make the right decisions rather than acting impulsively anymore.
