Today we’d like to introduce you to Anjali Phougat.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Anjali. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At the age of 16, when I won the State level beauty pageant it was my dream to start my own business and be financially independent. I was in school when I began working on my ideas– I had several sketches, pages of plans, and deep passion. As soon as I graduated, I started designing which didn’t work out but taught me a lot. In 2019, I started my fashion line Designer Dream Collection. I committed to it; I’ve worked day and night, had several rejections, failures, lack of funds and many more roadblocks. But I didn’t stop working with diligence until my dream became a reality. I am still introvert and quite woman but that doesn’t make me any less then anybody else because I believe in myself and proud of my ideas and accomplishments. Never stop pushing yourself because if you don’t push yourself you won’t be able to achieve what you are capable of accomplishing. Today I have successfully designed several outfits and jewelry for many top celebrities and Miss universe harnaaz kaur sandhu and very soon I will be launching my 10 year old daughter Aarna phougat collection inspired by light and happiness in NYFW.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From the shy and reticent girl who was mercilessly teased and criticized at school for being a “leftie,” a new Anjali took sail. Strong-willed, she bounced back with determination. At 16, she started designing bespoke outfits – wowing friends and family. Two years later, this pretty lass who is Miss Haryana 2000, got an impetus that instilled belief and confidence in her.
“People who used to criticize and make fun of me because I was a leftie now admire my talent, work, and creativity,” smiles Anjali Phougat, the Ohio-based self-taught designer and founder of Designer Dream Collection, speaking exclusively to Global Indian. Lefties are highly creative, good at divergent thinking and facing challenges, and Anjali essays these qualities well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Anjali Phougat is Cannes global short film Award winner and exclusive world record holder Central Ohio-based fashion designer, wardrobe stylist, entrepreneur, and founder of Designer Dream Collection, a luxury brand in the fashion industry. She is specialized in wedding styling & customization of jewelry and outfits and gained national attention through her work with Miss universe 2022 saree and jewelry designing and contributions in the fashion world, beauty pageants, New York Fashion Week, and Cannes film festival by showcasing her mesmerizing jewelry and red-carpet collection.
Her work often takes her across the world, and travelling and meeting new people has given her a window into the world to learn and help. “We learn something new every day,” says Anjali, the recipient of several awards.
“Consistency is the key to success. No one becomes successful overnight, and everyone faces different challenges during their journey. Staying positive, focused and a never-give-up attitude ensures success,” she advices even as she takes great courage from Mother Teresa and her humanitarian legacy.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Life is full of challenges and it all depends on you how you perceive them,” she says, who feels that success is not comfortable, one needs to give up on comfort to make the best use of life. “Staying focused and maintaining a positive attitude helped me overcome the challenges in life,” says the 39-year-old who believes that there is no greater joy than giving back to society and spreading happiness. It is very important to take risks to grow in any career but it should be safe and evaluated risk and one should never take any risk without analysis and out of balance.
