Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Longo.
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my soap-making journey in January 2016. It all started when I took a two-day soaping class with Margaret Neff in the Historic Clifton Opera House. I instantly fell in love with the process of making handmade soap! It is a precise process but it allows me to be creative and put my heart into my craft. In December of 2o17, I put my soap and products in a retail setting for the first time. It was at the Halo Salon in Xenia, where my friend Shannon Huff is the owner and operator.
In November 2018, I was invited by DJ Galvin to sell my handmade products in a store called Urban Handmade. I was honored to be able to sell my products at a local Artisan shop alongside so many talented artists and craftsmen. In June 2020, Flour Gift Shop was the next place I began selling my products. I was invited by the owner, Becky Hawkes. I also enjoy vending at two local art shows in Yellow Springs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say I’ve had any struggles. I’m a perfectionist so it takes me time to perfect my recipes before I put anything out on the market.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating all-natural bath and body products as well as soy candles & wax tarts. I’m proud of the overall variety that I offer. I love to learn about different people’s skin sensitivities & try to help in any way I can. I believe this sets me apart from others.
How do you define success?
My definition of success is when you love what you do, put in the hard work, and see the rewards through helping others.
