Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Poteet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Poteet.

Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As far as my memory can recall I have been inspired by and drawn to everything art and aesthetics from billboards to photography. Heavily involved with newspaper and yearbook in high school as a journalist, photographer, and graphic designer yet without any true education on aforementioned titles, these were viewed merely as hobbies and therefore not pursued as viable careers.

My college days were short as I bounced from major to major and quickly fell short of fulfillment and further from my purpose. To the job force I went, worked my way up to management, and found myself inadvertently working closely with the marketing team at Chick-fil-A in the Dayton Mall and was asked to design 3’x4′ floor clings to display throughout the mall to advertise the new spicy chicken sandwich.

As I continued working my way up the food industry ladder there was a consistent need for marketing/design materials, and I, one with many hats always jumped at the opportunity to create. Years later and exhausted, a tired decision was made to seek other career opportunities and to chase my dreams I would be posed to take a chance on myself.

Landed a job with Flyboys Deli as Director of Marketing, built a new set of skills in terms of social media and SEO marketing, and developed confidence in my craft. Down the road, as I was coaching softball our uniform guy offered me a position as a graphic designer for fully sublimated uniforms and apparel. Immediately this opportunity piqued my interest entirely as it was an integration of all my passions, art and athletics; work could be play and pay, a dream come true.

Without hesitation I happily accepted the position, a few weeks followed and that position evolved into multiple positions and as years passed the door for advancement closed abruptly and I decided to move on. While my heart was still fully invested and unwilling to give up my dream occupation, I began subcontracting artwork for similar companies, when one day an epiphany!

Shortly after NOMADX Uniforms & Apparel was born in January of 2019 as a side hustle, later to blossom into the full-fledged, one-woman business it is today. The various skills and insights acquired along my journey unknowingly prepared me to be where I am today; not just chasing my dreams, but fueling my dreams and fulfilling my purpose.

Despite being surrounded by doubt I choose every day to not succumb, but to transmute doubt and fear into drive and motivation, ultimately leading me to live this life of freedom that I could only envision. Yet here I stand as a female entrepreneur in the world of art and athletics, with the odds at my back, as a firm believer in the power to create a life you love and that resonates with your true being. It is all possible – with faith bigger than your fears.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had a clear vision of what I desired my life to be and to feel like but was uncertain and unclear about how to proceed and arrive at my ultimate destination. With little education, experience, or exposure to solo entrepreneurship my path was very unknown and without any support, my dreams at times felt fleeting and endlessly bleak. My journey was and continues to be mostly self-taught with lots of trial and error!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A graphic artist and designer, specializing in creating fully custom sublimated uniforms for any sports teams and clubs alike, as well as apparel. I also enjoy creating print materials for marketing: from large outdoor banners to invitations and brochures. Also a logo designer. I am most proud of the variety of services I offer, there’s not much I cannot do and if I don’t know I will always find a way and figure it out.

I enjoy new projects and new sets of challenges, and truly I have worked hard to create an environment within the company to ensure clients feel like friends and family. To provide top-quality products in a timely and friendly manner. Business doesn’t have to be so cutthroat and boring!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
NOMADX is a series of risks and a culmination of multiple leaps of faith. Without risk, no reward. But truly, along my journey, I didn’t view difficult choices as risks… I just followed my heart and always did what felt right. Those decisions were some of the hardest to navigate and follow through, but I always had an overall sense and belief that everything would work out. Thus far it has, and I have learned to trust the process and trust myself.
