Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Harris
Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story starts as far back as I can remember. My mother and father met in the psych ward. My mother is bipolar and my Father Schizophrenic, so it was never thought that I would be “normal”. But God had other plans for my life. It’s the time that I was placed in Kinship care. That got me where I am today. It was the trafficking and the sexual abuse I experienced that let me know that my life needed to be more. But it’s also those times that we get stuck and addiction takes over. But God. It was a failed marriage. The domestic violence that entered my story. Feeling like I wasn’t worthy of love or help. Hopeless to the pain and the depression. But God. It took a caring manager/ mentor to finally put a stop to it. Now through that I am walking in my purpose and shedding a light on mental health after my own struggles with PTSD and anxiety. It’s because of the care I received from her that I am walking in my purpose, destiny and deliverance. It’s now I realize I am not alone and don’t have to go through life alone anymore. With her walking by my side I was about to start the Open Letters to A Survivor Podcast and the Book I’ve written and dedicated to her, titled In His Eyes: Finding My Way Back To God. When we have the support and a strong foundation then we can move mountains and go after the success we long for. It’s because of Victoria and Prayer that I can stand tall and fight for who I am becoming.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Road has never been easy for me. I struggled with so many things from abuse and abandonment. To struggling with addiction and self- injury. I struggled with pain and depression that took away days of my life because I didn’t see how I could go on. The CPTSD and anxiety made the road harder but it’s the road bumpy, cloudy days and the days of storms in my life that let me know that one day even the struggles would be worth it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Beside my Job I am a writer and Poet known as Lady Poet Speaks. I am also the founder and creator of Open letters to a Survivor Podcast, the Owner of Finding my Throne Ministries Mentor program, and Purposed Gifts LLC of Cleveland.
How do you define success?
Success to me defined as the times when we fail but we get up and keep going. Failures create learning experiences. And those learning experiences cause up not to fall hard the next time. “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pele
Success takes endurance and perseverance to keep going no matter the pain and struggles we face. Resilience is the key to success. It’s not about how many blows you take and keep going. It’s about falling but not stay there. It’s about finding peace in the storms of life. Most importantly about walking when everything around you is crumbling. We are worth the fight which makes up worth the success.
