Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Ewing.
Allison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Allison Ewing Photography officially in 2014, but I have been taking photos well before that! I was the girl at middle school dances with four disposable cameras and a shot list of all the photos I needed to take for my scrapbook. My parents realized that my scrapbooking and excessive photo taking wasn’t going away any time soon, so they bought me my first DSLR, which I affectionately named my “big camera.” All through high school and college, my camera never left my side. Around that time, I started getting inquiries from family friends to take photos for them, which I hadn’t really considered before. But I said yes, and I’ve been capturing joy-filled moments for families ever since!
I graduated college in 2011 with a degree in public relations and went on to work for 7 years at a digital marketing agency. During that time, I was growing my photography business on the side and would take photos in the evenings and on the weekends. Five years ago, I was able to step away from my first career and pursue my business full-time.
Now, I’m truly living out my dream of being a wedding and lifestyle family photographer in Northeast Ohio!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never a smooth road, but I always say it’s worth the struggles and hardships when you’re doing something that you love! For me, establishing my business and continuing to learn ways to be a better photographer and business owner is always a priority. However, finding a work/life balance has been something that I’ve had to truly learn along the way. I’m a huge advocate for entrepreneurs taking care of themselves and focusing on self-care because at the end of the day, we need to take care of ourselves first. My favorite saying is, “if I’m not at my best, then there’s no way that my business can be at its best either.” And I truly live by that motto!

I am a wedding and lifestyle family photographer based in Northeast Ohio. I love nothing more than capturing bright, joy-filled images for my clients to have in their homes for decades to come! I’m most proud of the fact that I help my clients preserve their legacies. It’s always such an honor to be chosen to capture so many important milestones for the clients I serve, and I truly love getting to know everyone who steps in front of my camera!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
As a business owner, I wouldn’t be able to stay organized without my client management system, Honeybook. That’s where I receive inquiries and email my clients, plus all of my brochures, contracts, and payments are done through the app. But I’m also a super traditional paper-planner gal, and you’ll never see me without mine by my side!
When it comes to books and podcasts, I love any content related to entrepreneurship, photography, and balancing work/life. Outside of work, I love the Peloton app for all the workouts and meditations, which I find is super helpful for my own self-care!
