Today we’d like to introduce you to Alivia Speicher
Hi Alivia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I loved capturing memories of the people that I love, growing up my parents always had a small camcorder they would bring out on holidays, birthdays and all the occasions and I was fascinated by the fact that those videos could be taken and then watched back days later. From there I acquired a film camera from my boyfriends dad and then fell in love with the idea and beauty of film photos, the simplicity of taking a photo and not being able to take 100 photos a second. Film really made me fall in love with photography, I would take photos and be so excited to finish a role of film and develop it, at the time I was in college and developed my own film in the darkroom which is another process I fell in love with, although I do not develop my own film anymore I do still often take my film camera out for fun and capture friends and simply moments together. After college I then married my high school sweetheart in Arches National Park in Utah which ultimately pushed me to dive deeper into wedding photography, the beauty of the day made me want to relive It over and over again. I felt so inspired to make that jump and expand my knowledge into wedding photography and here I am today!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
it definitely has not been a smooth road and Ive had to learn to enjoy the struggles and the changes along the way, Its not super easy to break into wedding photography which is understandable as it is possibly the biggest day of your life and you want to trust your photographer in all the ways so I had to be patient with myself and not expect everything to happen so quickly. I struggled with the doubt in myself as many people do but I knew what I was capable of and truly felt that I could do it, I just needed to be patient and keep photographing the world around me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say Im an artist, and I specialize in photography. To me they go hand in hand, I’ve always had the urge to create which has changed over the years through many different forms of art. I love the beauty and love surrounding wedding days, all your loved ones so close celebrating and enjoying each other, I also love in home photos and maternity photos because they are so intimate and truly capture life in general and are truly so beautiful.
I would say I am most proud of the work that I have done and not giving up on myself and making this work because I truly believed in myself.
I would say the truth behind my photos is what sets me apart, I feel that I am present in the photos and capture the light falling and the moments in-between what you think may actually be the photo worthy moments. My goal with photos is to make you fall in love, fell seen and loved wherever you are in life.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
to be confident and trust myself
