Rising Stars: Meet Alexander Gayle of Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Gayle.

Hi Alexander, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started in the midst of COVID-19. My camera had been collecting dust up until then, but the sudden free time gave me the push to finally dive into photography and videography. Growing up, I was always drawn to movies—not just the stories, but the world-building and spectacle behind them. I was fascinated by how filmmakers could transport you into entirely different realities. That passion led me to major in Film Studies in college. During COVID, I began putting all of that inspiration into practice. Eventually, I landed my first internship creating content for a small private gym in Northeast Columbus. That experience not only helped me sharpen my creative skills but also introduced me to the fitness space, which has played a huge role in shaping my path after some time, I decided to leave the internship to pursue freelancing full-time. I wanted to challenge myself, take on a variety of projects, and grow as both a creator and a storyteller.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been easy. Balancing the journey of becoming a full-time creative while working a part-time job and finishing college was incredibly stressful. There were plenty of long days and late nights, but those challenges taught me discipline, patience, and how to stay focused on the bigger picture.

The road hasn’t been easy. Balancing the journey of becoming a full-time creative while working a part-time job and finishing college was incredibly stressful. As a beginner, it’s easy for insecurity to creep in, especially when you start comparing yourself to other artists. But I learned that you have to turn that insecurity into inspiration instead of letting it hold you back. There were plenty of long days and late nights, but those challenges taught me discipline, patience, and how to stay focused on the bigger picture.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer and videographer with roots in the fitness lifestyle and sports space, but I embrace all niches to expand my experience and continue growing my skill set. What sets me apart is my cinematic approach to my work, with a strong focus on storytelling, lighting and composition.

I’m a photographer and videographer rooted in fitness, lifestyle and sports. While I stay grounded in this space, I also explore other niches to sharpen my craft and bring a fresh perspective to every project. My work stands out through a cinematic approach that highlights storytelling, lighting, and composition—creating visuals that resonate deeply with both brands and audiences.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I eventually left my part-time serving job. It had reached a point where I was using it as a safety net—one that I didn’t really need anymore. Taking risks is essential in photography and videography, whether it’s trying a different shot or experimenting with lighting. Those risks—both big and small—are just as important as to truly grow. Stepping away from the safety net allowed me to fully commit to my creative work and challenge myself to push boundaries, all while developing my craft. It’s also helped me speak with more confidence when presenting ideas and now I never hesitate to experiment on any project
