Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaina Kathleen.
Hi Alaina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After leaving 9 years of military service, I made the decision to enter the beauty industry. I started off at the Brown Aveda institute and from there began my career at Bella Capelli Sanctuario in Westlake Ohio. From day one, I knew I wanted to not simply make this a job but a career. Through continued education, perseverance, and 24/7 hard work I’ve come to where I am today. I started with the Aveda runway program with Jon Reyman right out of school and continued to grow from there. I am now a core team member for the Aveda runway team, a content creator and educator for the Aveda North America Artistic team as well as an Aveda Purefessional Educator in cutting. I have the incredible pleasure of traveling the North American region teaching, and sharing my passion with others. Inside of the salon, I am the director of education helping to grow our interns into incredible Aveda artists.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with everything else in life it takes work. To climb the ladder to be able to do what I do I have sacrificed time with family and friends which always means missing out on some of those important things in life. However, all of it has been worth it. I do believe anything worth having takes hard work. I am so fortunate to have a career and be able to say I truly love what I do every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist, and I do believe most people do not think much of this profession, but I also believe most people do not have any idea what being a hairstylist can actually entail.
I am an educator, a stylist, and a sharer of my passion. In the salon I cut, color, and style with a specialty in men’s cutting. As an educator, I educate in styling and cutting. As a runway/editorial stylist I work with next models and designers from around the world styling models for print and runway.
What I am most proud is the fact I get to share my life’s passion with so many people. Daily I share my craft with my amazing clients in the salon who are truly the backbone of what I do. Being able to make my clients feel beautiful and confident is the reason I love being behind the chair. Outside of the salon, I am able to share my passion with the entire Aveda network of artists through education and editorial work. The Aveda network of artists is unlike any other out there. Being able to work alongside so many talented artists in salon and in my network is something I am thankful for every day.
What makes you happy?
I am so fortunate to have a multitude of things in my life that make me happy.
My wife first and foremost. She is absolutely the yin to my yang. One of our favorite things to do together is travel the world, and it just brings pure joy to my heart.
My family and friends are a close second. I am surrounded by a phenomenal group of humans in my life. Truly without them, I would not be able to do anything I do.
Something that I am happy about every day of my life is that I am able to have a career that brings me happiness along with a passion I had never known before I began in this industry. I am fueled by the passion I have for my career, and the fact that I get to work for a company like Aveda who truly is changing the industry and the world, along with such a supportive and talented salon is everything.
All of these things are truly what bring me joy.
