Rayna Moore shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Rayna, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I was beyond proud of my youngest daughter the other day. Baby B, as I call her in my social media posts, is the surviving twin of a Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome diagnosis. Due to this, she was born by emergency c-section at 25 weeks and 1 day at only 1lb 8oz and struggles with a variety of medical complications, such as Cerebral Palsy. Every week she attends multiple physical, occupational, and speech therapy sessions. This week at physical therapy at almost 5 years old, she was able to take 57 steps in a row without using any support. We have so much to be thankful for, but this, in particular, was a proud moment for Momma!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Multifacet Mom is the title to which I, and I am sure many others, relate. My name is Rayna Moore and I have been a physics teacher, banker, promotional model, actress, biology college instructor, chocolate seller, and so many other occupations. One of my favorite was when I traveled the world with Feld Entertainment’s Disney Live Three Classic Fairytales as an assistant electrician and rigger. It combined my passions for theatre and travel while providing a money making opportunity. Now, after having kids, I found it was time to dive back into my passions and as a creative outlet and way to spread the wonder of travel I began my travel creator brand, Some Moore Travel. On this platform, I work with tourism boards, entertainment venues, hotels, and brands to showcase their offerings and encourage parents to indulge in travel both with and without their children. You can see my posts on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube where I share travel tips, inside looks at accommodations and destinations, and research that shows how traveling both all together and as a couple can benefit the entire family.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
People get caught up in the day to day. We complete all those little things that add up to take away from our time, but don’t really move the needle and what do we get from it all? A sense of busyness, like Sisyphus, we are constantly pushing and working, but getting nowhere. By the time we are done with it each day we are left exhausted and all we can do is numb with scrolling endlessly, binging tv shows, or another glass of wine. Don’t get me wrong, I love all these things in moderation, but the whole system leaves us feeling disconnected. I know by the time I get home from a day of teaching, make dinner, do all the chores, make sure my kids have what they need for school the next day, and get everyone to bed, I am exhausted too. Travel gives us a break from the hamster wheel. Time to connect when you aren’t worrying about making the bed, setting the coffee pot, or getting homework done. Instead we can try a new restaurant together, learn how to sail, watch the kids go down a waterslide for the first time, bask in the wonder of a new amazing view… Travel allows us the opportunity to refresh and restore our connection to ourself, our spouse, and our family.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
After the loss of my daughter (Baby B’s twin), there was a time that I felt like this was all my fault and because of it I was never going to be happy again in my life. That struggle and climbing back out of that pit of depression opened me up to a brand new world of possibilities. I started working on positivity, mindset, meditation, and manifestation. I started paying attention to the signs around me and after a while, I even stopped being anger at God. I know I can only take the next right step in my path and for now that is pursuing travel creation and inspiring those around me to take the time that they have and explore their world.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
As a teacher in my day to day life and creator in my off time, I tend to lay it all out there. I dance around the classroom and sing bits that need remembered. I share the difficulties and the mistakes we make when traveling. I’m probably a little too honest and open. (Seriously, at one point the principal called me into the office because students had found my TikTok and were following me. I don’t require anyone to follow me, nor do I particularly publicize it in class, but I don’t mind if they do. Who knows? Maybe they’ll get inspired to do a little traveling of their own.) There are a few things that I don’t bring up in school, like my love of Girls Next Door and the history surrounding it, but for the most part I try to be authentically me, eccentricities and all.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
I have chased the idea of finding a career that I could retire from. Touring theatre isn’t a great one if you are starting a family. Banking could have been it, but it was a combination of boring and stressful, not to mention that they pay is horrendous. Even teaching- I yearned for a classroom of my own and now five years in, I know this is not my be all end all, just another step in the path. It’s another place to learn while I build my next piece. Who knows? Even travel creator probably has a shelf life, but for now I enjoy it. Every time I book a new deal with a venue I am filled with a burst of excitement, but perhaps this too is just a lesson to learn before I move on.
