Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Honnick.
Travis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey there!
My name is Travis Honnick. I am a published beauty and fashion photographer located in the greater Pittsburgh, NJ and New York area. I am a graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media. During my time at university, I obtained a certification in photography and digital imaging.
Up to this point, my training in photography has led me to become skilled at capturing, high-end retouching, and color-correcting portraiture. Although I am well-rounded in all aspects of photography, I like to focus my portfolio on glamour and fashion. I enjoy bringing the aspect of beauty across the many platforms of my client work, whether that be maternity, corporate headshots, family, etc.
Photography was never in the cards for me professionally. It all started as a hobby, really. I would ask my female friends to step in front of my lens as a fun, free, and creative escape. I always had an idea or concept I was itching to try out. After a while of getting traction on social media platforms, it snowballed from there. I quickly found myself networking with other creatives for makeup, hair, and modeling within the industry. Collaborating was essentially how I got my foot in the door and quite honestly, paved the way for a lot of my future bookings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to a photographer is like that of many other creative freelance outlets, demanding but rewarding. It hasn’t always been easy, but the journey is all part of the process. Growth is never linear. It’s all about the evolution of the craft. I have met some of the most wonderful people in the industry and hold those relationships near to my heart. My team, clients, and support system truly fuel me to keep growing and pushing my comfort zone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am obsessed with anything beauty related. Clean, crisp skin has always been a strong stand-out amongst my work. I also enjoy anything colorful that has a level of depth such as texture. But my first love will always be the glassy skin look.
Nothing tops your fist publication. Seeing your work printed before your eyes is a feeling like no other. My team and I were over the moon when it happened, and that spark ignited many creative features to come over the years.
Lastly, there’s nothing I enjoy more than capturing special moments that will last as a lifetime of beautiful memories. Creating visually pleasing images that make my clients look and feel incredible has always been important to me.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My grandfather took photos while serving in the navy, so at a young age, I remember being around film. I always had a polaroid or disposable camera in hand. I have countless boxes of developed film from over the years that I deeply cherish.
